LMI is seeking a skilled UX Designer at our headquarters office in Tysons, VA. As a UX Designer at LMI, your work will focus on crafting intuitive and accessible user experiences for federal systems. You will play an essential role in implementing human-centered design practices within Agile frameworks, conducting user research, and driving iterative improvements to support mission-critical applications. Working closely with stakeholders, product teams, and developers, you will create user-centric designs, ensure alignment with compliance standards, and deliver exceptional experiences with measurable results. Applicants will need to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.

LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.

Leveraging our mission-ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government, efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors—helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply human-centered design (HCD) principles to create user-first design solutions.
  • Conduct user research activities such as surveys, interviews, workshops, and focus groups to uncover user needs, pain points, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and leverage user personas, journey maps, and task analyses to inform design decisions.
  • Design and prototype solutions with a focus on user interactions that align with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) guidelines.
  • Ensure all designs meet Section 508 accessibility compliance, focused on inclusive and equitable access for all users.
  • Conduct usability testing, analyze feedback, and integrate improvements throughout design iterations.
  • Develop high-fidelity wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to effectively communicate ideas.
  • Create and update visual design assets, style guides, component libraries, and overall design system documentation.
  • Collaborate with Agile teams to plan and execute design sprints and ensure a seamless integration of design and development.
  • Facilitate stakeholder collaboration through workshops, feedback sessions, and regular communication.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., User Experience, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or equivalent).
  • 3–7 years of hands-on experience in UX/UI design, interaction design, or user research roles.
  • Proficiency in user research, prototyping, and designing user-friendly interfaces.
  • Demonstrated skills in accessibility compliance and experience implementing Section 508 standards into guidelines and workflows for digital solutions.
  • Expertise in using and designing with U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) standards to create consistent and compliant interfaces for web and mobile platforms.
  • Experience working within Agile development environments, including Agile sprints and iterative design cycles.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers and product managers.
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, Axure).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of HCD methodologies, including creating journey maps, conducting task analysis, and designing engaging user interfaces.
  • Experience developing training materials such as guides, video tutorials, and interactive modules for user adoption.
  • Familiarity with change management strategies, communication planning, and facilitating stakeholder alignment during project transitions.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze user analytics and feedback to generate actionable insights and improve overall user satisfaction.
  • Experience designing for complex federal systems or other regulated industries with a focus on compliance and security.
  • Certification in UX, HCD, or Agile methodologies (e.g., Professional Scrum Master [PSM] or Interaction Design Certification).
  • Knowledge or experience in leveraging emerging technologies like AI/machine learning to improve user experience.
