We are seeking a highly qualified and detail-oriented Concrete and Aggregate Laboratory Manager to lead and oversee all operations of our AASHTO-accredited materials testing laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day laboratory functions, maintaining AASHTO accreditation compliance, supervising and developing laboratory personnel, and ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and technical excellence. This role requires a strong technical background in concrete and aggregate materials testing, combined with proven leadership and administrative capabilities. This role will be transitioned into combined laboratory manager and quality control technician for precast concrete products.

Key ResponsibilitiesLaboratory Operations & Management - Precast Quality Control
  • Oversee all daily operations of the concrete and aggregate testing laboratory in compliance with AASHTO accreditation requirements. Ensure all testing procedures are performed in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and applicable state/federal standards. Maintain laboratory equipment calibration schedules, inspection logs, and maintenance records.
  • Manage the procurement of laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment.
  • Implement and enforce laboratory safety protocols and OSHA compliance standards.
  • Monitor and manage laboratory workflow to ensure timely and accurate delivery of test results. Oversee the preparation, review, and issuance of laboratory test reports and data packages.
AASHTO Accreditation Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all AASHTO accreditation activities, audits, and correspondence.
  • Maintain full compliance with AASHTO R18 and all accreditation program requirements.
  • Prepare and manage all documentation required for AASHTO accreditation renewal and expansion.
  • Coordinate and lead internal proficiency sample programs and inter-laboratory comparison studies.
  • Conduct internal audits and corrective action processes to maintain accreditation standing.
  • Track and implement updates to relevant AASHTO and ASTM standards and testing procedures.
Minimum QualificationsEducation
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Science, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Applicable materials testing experience and certifications or precast concrete plant experience preferred and accepted in lieu of degree.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a concrete and/or aggregate materials testing laboratory.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or management role within a laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working within an AASHTO-accredited laboratory strongly preferred or precast concrete plant experience.
Certifications

Required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire: ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician, ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1. Applicable NPCA or PCI Certifications are strongly recommended.

Leadership & Administrative Skills

Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of laboratory professionals. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interface professionally with clients, regulatory agencies, and accreditation bodies. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy. Ability to implement, train and teach new laboratory technologies and systems.
