Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

This role is responsible for using global manufacturing systems to digitalize and link key operational manufacturing equipment technologies and processes throughout BAC’s global factory footprint. By further connecting manufacturing systems to other key systems and datasets up and down the value stream, the role will be responsible for creating tools that drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) early in the process and ultimately manage better outcomes in the operational factory environment.

The Global Manufacturing Systems Technology Engineer reports to the Global Director, Advanced Manufacturing Technology.  This role interacts with the Global Business Systems applications teams as well as all regions’ manufacturing plants, regional manufacturing engineering and global engineering.  This position does not have direct reports.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Lead global manufacturing systems projects concerning connectivity and integration of new manufacturing technology and equipment. From project scoping through deployment onsite with plant owners, oversee all aspects of project management.
  • Create and maintain global connectivity specification standards to support new manufacturing technology equipment and automation. Familiarity with IIOT standards for connectivity critical (OPCUA, I/O boards, PLC’s, etc).
  • Define and optimize global equipment programming specifications and work processes. Any new equipment technology will align with the defined programming standards.
  • Build support for global manufacturing system standards across regions and plants as well as cross-functionally with Engineering and Global Business Systems (GBS).
  • Create equipment and physical process monitoring regimes with the goal of maximizing uptime, throughput, efficiency and quality:
    • Deploy manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) for use in monitoring equipment availability and performance
    • Conduct data collection and analysis through visualization tools such as PowerBI
  • Enable track and trace at the operational manufacturing level:
    • Monitor and optimize the transfer of data between Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and MES
    • Leverage MES processes to link and automate broader ERP functionality, such as confirmations
  • Create tools that drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) upstream, connecting ERP and Autodesk Inventor systems with manufacturing systems to empower and guide Engineering and Supply Chain best practices.

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline; Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical preferred with 5+ years of demonstrated experience in supporting technology and systems implementation, or a
  • Master’s degree in engineering or related discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing technologies, including sheet metal fabrication, steel tube fabrication, welding, controls, and automation
  • Understanding of equipment connectivity, sensors, and the functions of ERP and MES in manufacturing
  • Demonstrated project management skill and sound technical judgement
  • Experience in employing continuous improvement tools, including Lean, in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in design thinking approaches for the development of manufacturing technologies and systems applications
  • Demonstrated global collaborator
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead without authority

BAC Hiring Compensation Range $82,400 - $141,200
