Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

The manager in this position will lead a team of talented software engineers tasked with enabling the manufacturing of new surgical robotic instruments and accessories. This manager will have an opportunity to lead by example and nurture a team of engineers, owning the software infrastructure and tools to enable production. The manager will foster mutual trust and respect from their team as well as stakeholders. The position will require close collaboration with product development teams, systems analysts, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and quality engineers to define a coherent diagnostic strategies and lead the team to develop software to implement the same.

Roles and Responsibilities:

This role requires but is not limited to:

  • Hands on development as well as management (30% hands-on/70% management)
  • Work with your engineers and/or product managers to maintain a prioritized backlog and create short term and long term goals.
  • Guide and develop decisions on architecture and technical strategies.
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members.
  • Lead a team of talented software engineers to ship code and tackle hard engineering problems.
  • Help develop their careers and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals.
  • Provide continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members.
  • Hiring, developing and retaining top talent and being responsible for the overall team.
  • Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team's code, architecture, and processes.
  • Manage competing priorities.

Qualifications

Preferred Skills:

  • Project planning and execution
  • Familiar with updated software technologies
  • Experience developing robotic or electro-mechanical systems, including control systems
  • Strong analytical, time management, interpersonal, listening and communication skills
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing or regulated engineering environment
  • Strong industry experience in architecture and development of scalable production quality systems
  • Fully understand Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Familiarity with Statistical Analysis, Six Sigma, and/or Statistical Process Control are pluses

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Engineering (Software Engineering or Computer Science preferred)
  • 8+ years of software development experience (higher degree can offset years of experience)

Compensation will be based primarily on the job level at which the role is filled and the

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications.
