Job description

Overview

CVP is seeking Travel Medical Technologists (Clinical Laboratory Scientists) to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with laboratory services at the VA Maine Healthcare System in Augusta, ME.

Shift: Monday-Friday from 2:00 PM - 11:00 PM, holidays and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine chemistry testing on automated instrumentation (Abbott Architect ci8200, Abbott Alinity, Advanced Instruments Osmos, Polymedco OC80, etc.) as well as manual chemistry tests

  • Conduct patient phlebotomy and sample processing
  • Conduct daily and weekly quality control procedures and instrument maintenance

  • Perform urinalysis testing using automated instrumentation (Beckman Coulter Urinalysis, etc.) and manual techniques

  • Execute blood bank duties including cross matching, antibody screening and identification, selected cell panels, and processing blood products

  • Conduct hematology and coagulation testing using automated instruments (Sysmex, ACL Top, Alcor iSed, etc.) as well as manual procedures

  • Perform microbiology testing including plating, gram staining, reading plates, subbing plates, Microscan setup, PCR testing, and other routine procedures

  • Perform patient and QC testing according to established protocols and participate in the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Proficiency Testing (PT) Program

  • Independently test, evaluate, document, and report patient testing and Quality Control (QC) results

  • Identify, document, and resolve any collection, processing, testing or reporting issues

  • Positively identify patients prior to sample collection and samples prior to testing or aliquoting

  • Safeguard electronic and paper patient information

  • Provide patient-centered care with professional service to all stakeholders and customers

Qualifications
  • Ability to successfully undergo a Government sponsored background investigation (US Citizenship Required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, Chemistry, or Mathematics, and successful completion of a CLS/MT program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS)
  • OR a full 4-year course of study that included 12 months in a college or hospital-based medical technology program or medical technology school approved by a recognized accrediting organization
  • OR a Bachelor's or graduate level degree from an accredited college or university, including 16 semester hours of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester of mathematics, AND five years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids
  • Required Certification: Must be a nationally certified Medical Technologist (MT, MLS, or CLS) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Required Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience in chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology
  • Current and up-to-date continuing education required for maintaining certification
  • Influenza vaccination is required for this position in accordance with VHA Directive 1192.01

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Visual acuity sufficient to perform microscopic examinations

Pay: $35-40/hr + $1,247 Weekly Per Diem

Health & Wellness (H&W): $5.09/hr (H&W will be prorated based on enrollment in the benefits offered, including automatic enrollment in employer-paid plans.)

Contract: Immediately - 9/30/26 (Anticipated extension through March, 2027)
