Job description

Thomann Asphalt is a family-owned full-service asphalt paving company that's been in business for over 100 years. Our primary y focus is on commercial and industrial paving and sitework projects in both the private and public sectors. We specialize in parking lot maintenance, including paving, patching, seal coating, crack sealing, drain work, and site work, which includes a full complement of grading, excavating, and utility installation services. We are currently hiring an experienced Class A Lowboy Driver to join the team immediately! With this local position and you will be able to go home every night!
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Comply with all DOT and Company rules and regulations, as well as applicable DOT paperwork.
  • Safe transportation of heavy construction equipment to various job sites, using proper loading, securement, and unloading.
  • Maintain constant contact with Foreman to receive pickup and/or delivery instructions and keep them informed of any safety issues.
  • Maneuver and control the vehicle in a safe fashion, which includes handling the vehicle on-site and in over-the-road situations, proper signaling, searching for hazards, controlling speed, lane positioning, matching speed to road conditions, and the ability to drive during the day or nighttime.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle at the beginning and end of each shift; report any problems or damage to management.
  • Observe and report equipment or mechanical failures immediately.
  • Must understand the air brake system if the vehicle is equipped with the system.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates primarily in an indoor and outdoor work environment, in all weather conditions.
Physical Demands
The employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally stand, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to push, pull, move and lift to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to climb and descend a flight of stairs as needed.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Full-time position, Monday through Friday. Extended hours, nights and weekend work may be necessary based on business needs. In season the typical work week is about 50-60 hours.
Travel
This position may require travel and out of town work on occasion.

Compensation
Pay rate range is $33-$40 per hour, depending on experience.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Class A CDL license in good standing - No previous tickets or accidents
  • Experience is required; Lowboy experience is preferred
  • Experience operating standard construction heavy equipment e.g., bulldozers, excavators, and loaders is required
