Job description

Position Overview

First Databank (FDB) is currently seeking a Linux Systems Engineer to join the Infrastructure department. This role plays a key part in supporting the reliability, performance, and stability of Linux-based systems that enable the seamless delivery of FDB data to our customers.

This is an individual contributor role with a strong focus on Linux system administration, along with opportunities to grow skills in cloud platforms and automation over time. The position will be based out of the Indianapolis, IN office.


Responsibilities

Linux Systems Administration (Primary Focus - ~75%)

  • Install, configure, maintain, and support Linux-based  servers and systems
  • Monitor system performance and availability, and troubleshoot OS-level issues
  • Perform system patching, updates, and routine maintenance
  • Manage users, permissions, services, and system configurations
  • Support system reliability, security, and operational best practices
  • Work with storage solutions, including SAN-connected systems
  • Participate in documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures

Cloud & Automation Support (Secondary Focus - ~25%)

  • Support Linux systems running in AWS and/or Azure environments
  • Use and maintain existing automation tools and scripts
  • Write or update basic automation scripts (Bash, Python) for routine tasks
  • Assist with Linux system builds, image updates, and deployment processes
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to learn and adopt cloud and automation best practices

Required Skills

Linux Fundamentals

  • Strong experience with Linux operating systems, command-line tools, and core OS concepts
  • Hands-on experience with distributions such as RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu

System Administration

  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux servers
  • Familiarity with system monitoring, patching, O/S Upgrades, and troubleshooting

Scripting

  • Basic to intermediate scripting skills using Bash and/or Python
  • Ability to automate routine operational tasks

Networking

  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls)

Version Control

  • Experience using Git or similar version control systems

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • Exposure to AWS or Azure
  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and Terraform
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., Hyper-V)
  • Familiarity with backup systems such as Rubrik
  • Experience supporting systems in an Oracle database environment
  • Experience in healthcare, regulated, or high-availability environments

Soft Skills

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve system issues efficiently
  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with engineers, developers, and stakeholders

The reasonable estimate, if hired in Indianapolis, Indiana, is $110,000 - $120,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in location.
