Job description

The Landfill Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily landfill operations to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient disposal of waste materials. This role provides direct supervision to landfill operators and equipment personnel, coordinates site activities, and ensures adherence to environmental regulations, company policies, and safety standards. The Supervisor serves as the primary on-site leader and point of contact for operational issues, inspections, and customer or vendor interactions.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

The following represents most of the position's duties but is not meant to be all-inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary. Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory, environmental, and safety rules and standards, as well as corporate policies.

  • Supervise daily landfill operations including waste placement, compaction, cover application, and site maintenance
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of heavy equipment (dozers, compactors, loaders, etc.)
  • Coordinate incoming waste loads and traffic flow to maximize efficiency and safety
  • Monitor landfill capacity, cell development, and daily cover requirements
  • Enforce all OSHA, EPA, and state/local environmental regulations
  • Conduct daily site safety checks and hazard assessments
  • Ensure all employees follow PPE requirements and safety protocols
  • Respond to and document incidents, spills, or safety concerns immediately
  • Maintain compliance with permits, reporting requirements, and environmental standards
  • Directly supervise landfill operators, equipment operators, and laborers
  • Assign daily tasks and ensure productivity expectations are met
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to team members
  • Support disciplinary actions and performance improvement processes as needed
  • Maintain accurate operational records including tonnage, equipment usage, and daily logs
  • Complete required regulatory and internal reports in a timely manner
  • Communicate operational updates to management
  • Communicate with drivers, contractors, and vendors on-site professionally
  • Resolve operational or service issues as they arise
  • Support scalehouse operations when needed
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams for equipment repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Report equipment issues promptly to minimize downtime
  • Perform and oversee minor equipment maintenance, including oil changes and routine servicing
  • Ensure all required reports are completed accurately and submitted on time
  • Operate heavy equipment as needed to support operations during staffing shortages
  • Provide supervisory support at other facilities when operational needs require coverage
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical training preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in landfill operations, waste management, construction, or heavy equipment operations
  • 1-3 years of supervisory or leadership experience required
  • Strong knowledge of landfill operations, safety regulations, and environmental compliance
  • Experience operating or overseeing heavy equipment (dozers, compactors, loaders)
  • Live in Pecos, TX, or within a 30-mile radius from Pecos, TX, required.
  • Company-paid housing will be provided during your working shift.
  • Live in Orla, TX, or within a 60-mile radius from Orla, TX, required.
  • Company-paid housing will be provided during your working shift.

Working Conditions/Environment:

  • Operates in a field environment.
  • May be subject to environments that are extreme in nature, such as heat, cold, etc.
  • The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to:
  • Standing, walking, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Walking on uneven and vegetated terrain; sampling activities such as hand auguring for soil sample collection.
  • Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds and must be able to carry a self-contained breathing apparatus if needed. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    • 10/4 (10 days on 4 days off)
    • 12-hour shifts
