Compensation

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $112,900.00 - $188,100.00. This role is eligible for an incentive target of up to 10 % or $ , based on the achievement of individual and company performance objectives in accordance with the current terms of the incentive program which are subject to change.

Position Details 

The Team

The Home Page and Display Customizations (HPDC) team owns the components, services, and APIs that power the Grainger.com homepage and much of the site's global navigation experience.

Because these capabilities are central to how customers navigate Grainger.com, the team places a strong emphasis on consistently delivering reliable, high-quality software. HPDC is a high-visibility team whose work has a meaningful impact on the customer journey and supports teams across the organization.

As the team's scope continues to grow, successful team members will be comfortable translating business needs into technical solutions, navigating ambiguity, and breaking complex goals into clear, actionable software deliverables.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Home Page and Display Customizations team, you will be a core member of a growing team whose work influences key customer-facing experiences across Grainger.com.

You will bring a solid understanding of both frontend and backend technologies and use your experience to mentor junior engineers, promote software engineering best practices, and drive continuous improvement in the team's products and processes.

Working in a collaborative environment, you will help improve and modernize shared website capabilities, including the homepage, global header and footer, and customization tools. You will contribute to the team's micro-frontend architecture and partner with engineers and stakeholders across the organization to address cross-cutting needs that affect the broader Grainger.com experience.

Your work will include creating and maintaining reusable React components, designing and evolving backend services and infrastructure, improving application observability and reliability, and modernizing legacy systems using current architectures and engineering standards.

You will report to the Engineering Manager, Product Engineering. The primary location for this role is Chicago, with the ability to work from home two days per week. Candidates who live outside the Chicago area may work remotely.

You will

 

  • Lead team-level projects, taking sometimes ambiguous guidance, communicating with stakeholders, setting goals, and completing tasks both technical and non-technical to achieve intended outcomes
  • Actively engage in product strategy and prioritization discussions at the team level
  • Deliver well-defined features, fixes, and technical upgrades at an efficient pace and with a high level of quality
  • Actively engage in the code review process, both giving and receiving feedback from your teammates

 

  You Have 

 

  • 4+ years of experience building software as part of a team in a professional setting, 
  • Experience leading projects at the team level.
  • Understanding of micro frontend architecture principles.
  • Experience with React. 
  • Experience with GitHub Actions workflows.
