Job description

Lovelaceย Biomedical Research Institute is currently seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Custodian / Janitor. The ideal candidate for this position is detail-oriented, flexible and willing to take on non-routine cleaning and special projects as the need arises. The Janitor will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and public areas. Performs general clean-up of all areas of the building as directed - sweeping, mopping floors, vacuuming and dusting.ย  Completes non-routine cleaning according to specified job orders.ย  Remove garbage and recycling daily and prepare bins for weekly pick-up.ย  Handle emergency cleaning and upkeep requests.ย 


Requires a high school diploma and 1 year previous janitorial experience or 5 years of janitorial experience in lieu of a high school diploma; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.ย  ย Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing and working alone for long periods of time.ย  Ability to work well under minimal supervision; Capacity to take direction; Strong attention to detail.

Successful completion of a post offer pre-employment physical examination may be required, along with respirator eligibility.

Vaccinations/immunizations may be required as a condition of employment.

A valid REAL ID driverโ€™s license, registration, and proof of insurance are required.ย ย 

Hours are from 10:00am to 6:30pm Monday - Friday.

Position is located at the south campus of LBRI on Kirtland Air Force Base.


Work is performed in a variety of settings including office and laboratory environments, as well as in outdoor areas.ย  Will frequently stand, walk, sit, kneel, crawl, climb, sweep, reach/work overhead, frequently lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds, perform repetitive motions and perform desk-based computer tasks.ย  May work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.
