Job Description
General Scope of Duties
This is a 42-week, 37.5 hours/week, full-time clinical position with administrative responsibilities. The position requires psychological diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of student patients. Provides consultative, crisis, on-call and outreach services to the campus community. Work closely with the Director in ensuring the provision of high-quality clinical services to the students. Provide clinical supervision and training for the practicum training program. Will have a general expert knowledge of mental health and psychological functioning, along with a specific knowledge of college mental health. Will have experience with and proficiency in providing counseling that is affirmative, sex-positive, culturally sensitive, consistent with risk reduction principle. Will have experience in counseling that promotes self-determination and addresses issues of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and the intersection of these aspects of identities with other categories such as race, class, and religion, as well as physical functioning.
General Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Perform psychological evaluations and treatment as required; report and discuss results with the team and requesting clinicians.
  2. Perform general and specialized clinical and outreach services in an affirmative, sex-positive, culturally sensitive manner, consistent with risk reduction principles, and that promotes self-determination.
  3. Ensure that documentation and productivity meet standards set in Student Counseling Services policy and procedure.
  4. Provide training and supervision to clinical practicum students and interns, as needed.
  5. Remain current in literature and treatment developments in the mental health field, especially college student mental health, and specialized care to support college students.
  6. Receive professional development as required to maintain license.
  7. Initiate and perform administrative tasks that contribute to the functioning of Student Counseling Services.
  8. Initiate and assist the Director with administrative acts including representation at campus meetings, liaison with campus stakeholders, provide general mental health awareness presentations and advance systems of care in SCS.
  9. Review and manage the clinical operations of the department, coordinate clinical care and meetings to advance staff skills.
  10. Coordinate mental health outreach on the campus to advance mental health awareness.
  11. Manage policy and procedure manual, updating and creating policies as needed.
  12. Create clinical protocols reflecting best practices in providing student care..
  13. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with students, faculty and staff.
  14. Perform departmental research; manage and provide reports as needed.
  15. Support grant writing and management of funding.
  16. Participate in on-call rotation for emergency and crisis situations that pertain to students and campus life.
  17. Adhere to the ethical codes of conduct appropriate to professional bodies such as the APA and other professional organizations.
  18. Work as needed over breaks and after hours.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

Education and Skills
  1. Doctoral degree in clinical psychology (Ph.D./Psy.D.); APA-approved doctoral program and internship. (preferred)
  2. Master's degree in social work, professional counseling, or other clinical mental health field; Regional accreditation of program.
  3. 2-3 years of clinical experience required; experience in college mental health preferred.
  4. Licensed to practice as a psychologist in the state of Connecticut.
  5. High integrity needed to handle confidential information.
  6. Knowledge, training and experience in working clinically with diverse, multicultural, LGBTQIA+, international students and other traditionally underserved populations (multicultural competence).
  7. Demonstrated leadership skills.
  8. Experience with specialized treatments that are applicable to college students, including recovery (alcohol, drugs, internet); eating disorders; men's mental health; trauma.
  9. Well-organized, able to work under pressure and as a member of a team.
  10. Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community.
  11. Excellent presentation skills necessary to provide mental health awareness outreach to the campus community.
  12. Travel as necessary to meet the requirements of the position.
