Schedule Details/Additional Information:
Primarily working in a standard five business day work schedule. However, the position leads 24 hour operations and will have varied responsibilities that may take place outside of the standard schedule.

$68.20 - $102.30
Major Responsibilities
  • Provides enterprise leadership and strategic direction for all EMS operations, including 911 response, interfacility transports, specialty and critical care transports, and nonemergent mobility services.
  • Oversees systemwide EMS clinical and operational excellence, ensuring safe, protocol driven care delivery across BLS, ALS, wheelchair, ambulatory, and specialty transport programs.
  • Leads EMS workforce strategy and education pipelines, including recruitment, training, credentialing, and professional development of EMTs, Advanced EMTs, Paramedics, and other personnel to meet current and future system demand.
  • Directs EMS fleet and resource management in collaboration with Fleet & Logistics leadership, ensuring readiness, standardization, lifecycle planning, and appropriate deployment of vehicles and equipment.
  • Establishes enterprise performance metrics and dashboards, monitoring response times, clinical quality, utilization, workforce productivity, safety events, and financial performance across EMS programs.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance and accreditation of readiness across all EMS operations, including state and local EMS authorities, medical direction requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Partners with Capacity Command Centers and Communication/Dispatch Centers to optimize patient flow, dispatch efficiency, and appropriate utilization of EMS and transport resources.
  • Leads business development and growth initiatives related to EMS services, including new contracts, partnerships, municipal agreements, health system affiliations, and specialty transport programs-partnered with the AH growth, strategy, innovation and business development teams.
  • Collaborates with divisional and facility leadership, Mobile Medicine, MIH, Hospital at Home, Aviation, Nursing, and Medical Directors to align EMS services with clinical, operational, and strategic priorities.
  • Provides senior leadership during high acuity events, including disasters, surges, and system disruptions, ensuring EMS readiness and coordination with emergency management frameworks.

Minimum Job Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor's degree required in Emergency Medical Services, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Public Health, or related fields.

Certification / Registration / License

Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in EMS operations, emergency management, or mobile healthcare delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-site or regional EMS programs, including 911 response and interfacility transport.
  • Experience leading EMS education, training programs, or workforce development initiatives.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Expert knowledge of EMS operations, clinical protocols, and regulatory environments.
  • Strong leadership capability in high reliability, time-sensitive environments.
  • Financial and operational acumen, including budgeting, staffing models, and performance metrics.
  • Ability to collaborate across service lines, divisions, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Proven ability to lead change, standardize practice, and scale operations.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Significant travel within the Advocate footprint, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Exposed to a normal office environment and/or remote work environment.

Preferred Job Requirements
Preferred Education
  • Master's degree is strongly preferred with a focus in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Public Health (MPH), Business Administration (MBA), or related field.
  • Formal training in emergency management, Incident Command System (ICS), or disaster response.

Preferred Experience
  • Leading EMS business development, contracting, or municipal negotiations.
  • Enterprise level EMS leadership or large, multijurisdictional EMS systems.
  • Integrating EMS with Mobile Integrated Health, Hospital at Home, or alternative care delivery models.

Preferred Certification / Registration / License
  • Active or prior EMS clinical licensure (EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic) preferred.
