QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3+ years of municipal experience in building inspections and code enforcement, with a strong understanding of relevant regulations and codes
  • Plumbing Inspector's license and Code Enforcement Officer certification from the State of Texas
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Knowledge of building inspection principles, practices, and construction methods, along with experience in conducting inspections and reviewing building plans for compliance
  • Ability to investigate code violations, respond to public inquiries and complaints, and maintain departmental records and documentation
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to work in a variety of conditions
  • Ability to drive, sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, crouch, kneel, climb ladders and stairs, and occasionally lift objects up to 20 pounds
  • Additional ICC certifications and experience conducting municipal building inspections in a local government environment is preferred

YOUR ROLE AS A BUILDING INSPECTOR
You will conduct hands-on inspections of residential and commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical codes. Your responsibilities include reviewing building plans for new construction and remodels, approving projects that meet regulations, and advising contractors and residents on permit and code questions. You will address concerns, investigate potential zoning and safety violations, prepare reports or demolition warrants, issue Certificates of Occupancy, enter inspection results into the city's system, and collaborate with other departments to maintain safe and compliant properties in the community.
We offer a full-time schedule from 7:30 am - 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday.
