Job description

OVERVIEW

The Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of pharmacists and experienced pharmacy staff to develop the knowledge and skills needed to become a certified pharmacy technician. This role assists with preparing, dispensing, stocking, and delivering medications, maintaining pharmacy inventory, and supporting daily pharmacy operations. The Pharmacy Technician also performs administrative duties, responds to patient and provider inquiries, and helps ensure a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment while delivering professional customer service.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, rotating weekends

Shift: Days & Evenings

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works under direct supervision of pharmacists and other pharmacy staff to learn the skills needed to become a pharmacy technician.

  • Assists in preparing, stocking and distributing medications. These tasks may also include procuring, measuring, compounding (sterile and non-sterile), counting, and delivering medications.

  • Fills prescription/medication orders.

  • Maintains inventory and restocks items in the pharmacy.

  • Performs administrative tasks such as updating records, keeping the pharmacy clean and organized, and handling billing and insurance documentation.

  • Responds to the requests of patients and healthcare providers and refer various inquiries to the Pharmacist.

  • Complies with rules, regulations and procedures to help maintain a clean and safe pharmacy.

  • Obtains a working knowledge of the functionality of all equipment and technology in the department.

  • Appropriately triages phone calls and takes detailed phone messages.

  • Demonstrates professionalism in behavior, appearance and interactions.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

  • IL applicants: License is required.

  • WI applicants: Registration is required.

  • Computer competencies

  • Good interpersonal skills, including both verbal and written communication skills

  • Good interpretive/analytical skills for medication dosage calculations

  • Reliable

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to problem solve

  • Time and task management, prioritizing, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team

  • Ensures quality and safety in all work functions

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION

Work is performed according to specific procedures and methods, but the employee must make minor decisions in order to adapt to routine situations.
