Job description

Job Purpose Within this role the candidate will promote ACPL's values and mission while following established policies and procedures. The purpose of this position is to serve the informational, reference and reading needs of library patrons of all ages at ACPL and will be expected to perform any and all routine tasks necessary to the operation of the library system. This position works under the supervision of the Community Engagement Librarian.

This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, benefitted position. While most hours are Monday - Friday, frequent monthly weekend or evening hours are required. This position will be scheduled to work at other library branches throughout Alamance County on a regular basis.

The best candidate will possess a strong commitment to provide customer-focused service, a curious nature, and share an interest in learning, teaching, and trying new things. They must possess strong leadership qualities, excellent computer and communication skills, and a strong work ethic. This position will require presenting programs outside the library frequently, including at outdoor stops with our mobile vehicles.

Responsibilities Learns and teaches library staff and community members about digital resources and technology equipment. Develops training documentation, procedures, and policies for library technology and equipment, including Discovery Lab components, Chromebooks, hotspots, and any new emerging technologies added to our services/resources. Plans and presents digital literacy and technology-related workshops both in-person, online, and pre-recorded at the library branches and in the community, alone or in coordination with partners.

Provides one-on-one help for patrons in conjunction with our mobile vehicles and Home Delivery services, and at partner organizations. Acts as the lead technology librarian and coordinates with coworkers in charge of technology at each branch. Working at the branch's public service desks and on the mobile vehicles as scheduled, and following established ACPL circulation policies and procedures.

Qualifications MLIS or Bachelor's degree with 3 years or more years of increasingly responsible professional library experience in a public library. Experience with computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, databases, ILS systems, Overdrive, Hoopla, etc. Flexibility in scheduling is required Preferred Qualifications Experience working with diverse populations in community-facing roles strongly preferred.

Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred Skills & Abilities Strong customer service orientation with the ability to provide respectful, equitable assistance to patrons of all backgrounds. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, internet searching, and social media platforms. Ability to learn and apply library-specific technology, including ILS systems and electronic resources. Creativity in program planning, display design, and patron engagement.

Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and accountability. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, reach, squat, and lift up to 40 lbs.

Ability to push/pull loaded book carts and access materials on high and low shelves. Ability to effectively communicate with patrons and staff in a busy environment
