Objectives/Summary
R. F. MacDonald Co. is looking for an experience Boilermaker Welder, responsible for comprehending and utilizing blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals, and work process instructions to install, and repair boilers, pumps, burners, and other pressure vessels. The boilermaker welder collaborates with the end users, contractors, authorized inspectors, and equipment engineers. The Boilermaker will also be responsible for service work estimations, keeping the scheduler of the work informed of daily work progress, custodian of company truck, tools, equipment, and supplies. Responsible for monitoring of his own billings, costs, and inventory. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager.
Essential Functions
  • Ability to perform all job duties of craft trade. Test and inspect boiler systems for leaks or defects
  • Inspect assembled vessels and individual components, such as tubes, fittings, valves, controls, and auxiliary mechanisms, to locate any defects.
  • Install manholes, handholes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges, and feedwater connections in tube boilers, using hand tools.
  • Clean pressure vessel equipment, using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents.
  • Ability to read cut sheets Lay out from drawing Cut material from lay out and cut sheets Plan work and execute.
  • Ability to take drawings, required material, line out helpers and execute work Tools and Knowledge of specialty tools (torque wrench, mill hogg, torch, plasma cutter, chop saws, mag drills, Hogan drills)
  • Welding and cutting Knowledge of cutting torch, set up, dangers, usage, cleaning, types of tips and when to use the different types of tips Equipment.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow procedures. Competent in reading and understanding specifications and drawings.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to current or daily job duties.
  • Complies with the highest level of safety during all stages of project execution to avoid any type of incidents and or accidents.
  • Complete service reports on the job, have clients to sign the completed report before leaving the site, submit the signed reports to the office.
  • Collaborates with sales and service team to increase the sales of our boiler product lines. Will work to "package" the sale of service contracts with our boiler lines.
  • Will understand the requirements of ASME Code repairs and its impact on estimating, inspections, welding procedures and material control.

Work Environment
This job operates in internal and external environments which may include inclement weather conditions. Environment will include working with hot steam, liquids tight spaces and other conditions depending on customer site(s).
Physical Demands and expected work hours
Standing 60% Walking 20% Sitting 20%, Lifting, and carrying up to 50 lb.
This is a full-time position. Required to work in 8 hours shift.
Required to assist in providing 24-hr service by being "on call" on a rotating basis.
Travel
Travel is required for this position to other R. F. MacDonald locations and customer sites with out-of-area and possible overnight travel.
Requirements
  • Must be certified in the 6G welding position and able to be certified as an employee of our company.
  • Knowledge in water treatment and how it relates to operation of the equipment. Capable of identifying potential problems when lack of water treatment is performed.
  • Troubleshooting of the valves, motors, and safety devices.
  • Capable of reading and understanding mechanical drawings. Along with the ability to make modifications to the equipment per these drawings.
  • Capable of pipe fitting to ASME, state and local codes.
  • Evaluate basic boiler room systems (steam and hydronic), gather information, and help solve problems.
  • Ability to produce detailed but concise quotations pertaining to customer requirements
  • Must have good knowledge in appraising the customer's service needs for the repair of various products including boilers, pressure vessels, burners, boiler accessories, and other heat producing equipment.
  • Some in-house and formal factory training will be provided on a scheduled basis, but you are expected to seek the necessary level and frequency of training from the company's resources to become proficient in these areas.
  • Time in the field with our sales personnel is expected to develop an understanding of the contractor, engineering, and competitive requirements of our industry.
  • A superior level of customer service that promotes goodwill between the company, customer, and other associates.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of and familiarity with computers, MS office, familiarity with smart phone, internet, and email functions. Must be able to use a keyboard to enter data accurately.
  • A driving record that is in good standing
  • Be fit for a respirator. Access confined spaces
  • 5-8 year of related experience in boiler/pumps operations and handling of boiler auxiliary equipment.
