Grant Writer/Coordinator

Reports To: Executive Director Team: Administration
Benefits: Full-time, health, dental, vision insurance, Vacation/Sick Leave, Simple IRA, Non-Exempt status.

Position Summary

The Grant Coordinator is responsible for securing and managing grant funding to support the mission and operations of Family Crisis Centers. This role involves grant writing, research, compliance monitoring, donor/funder stewardship, and development support. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and proactive in identifying and securing funding opportunities that align with the organizations goals. This position also assists the Director ofDevelopment with agency development initiatives as needed.

Ability to travel weekly to Sioux Center, IA office location.


Key Responsibilities

Grant Writing & Proposal Management

  • Develop compelling and well-researched grant proposals that align with funder priorities and organizational needs.
  • Ensure all grant application components are complete according to instruction and submitted by deadlines.
  • Respond promptly to grantors' requests for additional documents or information.

Grant Research & Strategy Development

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Director of Finance and Director of Development to develop an annual grant strategy.
  • Identify and research new funding opportunities that align with the fiscal years priority areas, support FCCs mission and goals, and have a strong likelihood of success.
  • Maintain a grant calendar, tracking renewal deadlines and new funding opportunities.

Grant Compliance & Management

  • Responsible for the full grant lifecycle - including prospect identification, application preparation, submission tracking, reporting, and ensuring grant-funded programs meet established goals as outlined in approved proposals.
  • Track deadlines, reporting requirements, and stewardship activities to ensure compliance with funder expectations.
  • Ensure proper data collection in line with grant funder requirements, confidentiality standards, and FCC policies. Maintain organized grant files and documentation within the agencys network.
  • Meet the goals outlined in the fiscal year operating budget for new grant dollars and existing grant dollars
  • Be the expert on EmpowerDB, the database that stores all client information. Ensure the database stays up to date, data is entered regularly and correctly, and reports are accurate.

Funder Relationship Management and Development Support

  • Steward current and potential grant funders through efforts such as sending FCC newsletters, setting up meetings, sending thank you notes, etc.
  • Ensure grant funders are appropriately thanked upon receipt of a new grant award and upon rejection of grant proposals.
  • Maintain positive relationships with past and current grant funders
  • Conduct prospect research to identify, qualify, and profile foundation, corporate, and individual funding opportunities aligned with the organizations mission.
  • Generate reports and analysis to support fund development strategy and leadership decision-making.

Organizational Mission & Values

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to FCCs mission, maintaining ethical and transparent grant administration practices.
  • Work with the administration team to maintain and strengthen FCCs branding and public image.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and supervisors to foster a supportive work environment, ensure clarity in expectations, and promote collaboration to enhance victim services.
  • Adhere to all Family Crisis Centers policies and procedures.
  • Travel as required throughout Family Crisis Centers service area.
  • Perform all other duties as requested to support the organizations goals.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Social Science, English, Communications, or a related field.
    • Grant writing and management experience preferred; willingness to learn is required.
    • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations, their operations, and grant processes is preferred.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Strong research skills to identify funding sources and incorporate data and statistics into proposals. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and grant management software.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects while maintaining high-quality outputs.
    • Strong attention to detail, strategic thinking, and creativity in developing funding proposals.
  • Training & Certification: Must complete mandatory victim advocate training within 30 days of employment and fulfill on-going certification requirements.
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel throughout service area.
  • Background Requirements: Must pass all required background checks, including/not limited to:
    • Criminal and child/dependent adult abuse background checks
    • Sex Offender Registry clearance
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and adequate motor vehicle insurance.
