About the position
The individual in this role is a leader in the department that oversees the office employees, projects, departmental standards related to AutoCAD work, and training of CAD Technicians and Project Managers. This role ensures operational excellence and strategic growth within the department and requires a deep understanding of both technical and legal aspects of surveying.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Assists Department Director with reviewing, signing and sealing final deliverables to clients
  • Large majority of hours will remain billable on projects, with some functions being non-billable to support department growth
  • Draft proposals for new projects and assist with negotiation with clients if necessary.
  • Manage billing for own projects and assist department Director with additional billing tasks if asked.
  • Works collaboratively with Director to ensure all projects align with company standards and goals.
  • Assist department director develop department budgets and monitor financial performance.
  • Develops and maintains CAD technician policy/procedure standards in Civil3D related to drafting, updating to adjust to new standards and/or technology to maximize accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversees the department training program for CAD technicians and Project Managers, including existing employees and new hires.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field preferred but not required. Some positions might accept equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with construction layout, as-builts, plats, and calcs.
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license is required.
  • Over 10 years of experience in land surveying with extensive project management experience.
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills.
  • Mastery of surveying practices and legal standards.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to represent the department and company.
  • Proficient with the latest AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.
