Position Description Summary/Purpose:
The University of Bridgeport is looking for a Men's and Women's Head Rowing Coach to establish the rowing program. The women's program will compete at the NCAA level, while the Men's program plans to join the IRA. This position recruits, trains and provides guidance to members of the Row team in a manner which promotes the academic, athletic and social success of athletes and is consistent with the mission and goals of the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department.
Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Represent the University of Bridgeport and the Athletic Department in a positive manner with a high degree of integrity and quality.
  • Promote and support the University of Bridgeport and its mission.
  • Recruit student-athletes for the 26-27 academic year, and therefore in accordance with NCAA/IRA rules and regulations.
  • Promote Row at the University of Bridgeport
  • Provide leadership in the planning and operation of the program.
  • Administer within the policies of University of Bridgeport, team conference, and NCAA and IRA rules.
  • Organize and facilitate all daily practice sessions, contest preparation, competition and off-season training.
  • Adhere to operating, equipment and scholarship budgets as established by the Athletic Department.
  • Delegate responsibilities to crew coaches and squad members.
  • Develop and maintain a successful recruiting system while maintaining a high level of visibility.
  • Assist in promotion and public relations activities for the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department.
  • Supervise and evaluate crew coaches.
  • Schedule contests in accordance with the policies set forth by the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department.
  • Coordinate travel and meal considerations for away contests.
  • Select coaches in cooperation with the Director of Athletics.
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.

Other Functions:
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
The qualifications required would generally be acquired with ... or any equivalent combination of education, work experience and training.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; advanced degree preferred;
  • CPR/AED certification;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Coaching and /or participation at collegiate level preferred; demonstrated ability and passion to teach wrestling
  • Knowledge and experience in aquatics
  • Ability to work weekdays, evenings and weekends;
  • Candidate must have a valid driver's license and meet University of Bridgeport's Driving Requirements;
  • Willingness to fundraise;
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the university community.
