Tower Construction Technician

Locations: Santa Rosa, CA | Spokane, WA | Dallas - Fort Worth, TX | Oklahoma City, OK

Fully Onsite | No Travel Required | Full-Time

Position Overview

Crown Innovations Inc. is seeking experienced Tower Construction Technicians to join our Integration & Infrastructure & Engineering (I&E) Division. This role supports FAA and government projects involving tower replacements, upgrades, and infrastructure modernization for the National Airspace System (NAS).

Technicians will perform civil construction and tower installation activities, including site preparation, tower assembly, equipment integration, and infrastructure buildout for communication towers and related facilities. This position requires hands-on expertise in construction environments while ensuring projects meet strict safety, regulatory, and performance standards.

This is a local hire position based in one of the locations listed above. This role is fully onsite with no travel required.

Opportunities for advancement include lead technician roles, project coordination, and involvement in emerging technologies such as UAS integration.

Key Responsibilities

Site Preparation & Civil Construction

  • Perform site excavation, trenching, foundation pouring, conduit installation, and backfilling for tower bases and supporting infrastructure.
  • Execute concrete forming and civil construction activities in accordance with engineering specifications.
  • Support site preparation and cleanup activities

Equipment Operation

  • Operate light to medium construction equipment including compact track loaders (CTL), mini-excavators, skid steers, and telehandlers.
  • Perform material handling and equipment movement safely and efficiently.
  • Operate equipment only when properly trained and authorized.

Tower Installation & Infrastructure

  • Assemble, erect, and upgrade communication towers including structural components, antenna mounts, and waveguide bridges.
  • Install and terminate RF cabling, coaxial lines, fiber optics, and hybrid cables with proper routing and weatherproofing.
  • Implement grounding systems, electrical wiring, surge protection, and bonding in accordance with NEC and FAA standards.
  • Perform tower climbing for inspections, installations, and maintenance; climbing certification preferred.
  • Decommission and remove legacy towers and equipment, including safe demolition and disposal.

Engineering & Coordination

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, site plans, and RF data sheets.
  • Coordinate with FAA personnel, subcontractors, and project managers to schedule outages, manage timelines, and resolve on-site issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, environmental regulations, and quality assurance processes.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Document work progress and generate reports.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, materials, and equipment.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required for government contract work.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in tower construction, civil infrastructure, or telecommunications installation.
  • Proven experience with tower assembly, RF cabling, grounding, and electrical systems in aviation or telecommunications environments.
  • Proficiency operating light construction equipment such as CTL, excavators, or similar equipment.
  • Knowledge of civil construction practices including conduit work, trenching, and concrete forming.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance and meet background investigation requirements associated with federal contract work.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to safety with experience following OSHA and FAA standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for equipment transport.
  • Tower climbing certification and experience working at height.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
  • First Aid / CPR certification.
  • Rigging / Signal Person certification.
  • Familiarity with FAA Technical Operations and NAS infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting government contracts for tower upgrades.
  • Experience using tools such as cable testers, spectrum analyzers, torque wrenches, and hoisting equipment.
  • Knowledge of environmental considerations such as NEPA compliance or wildlife impact assessments.

Additional Role Considerations

  • Familiarity with hazardous materials handling, including HAZWOPER certification, may be beneficial.
  • Experience supporting sustainable construction practices or modern infrastructure initiatives.
  • Exposure to emerging technologies such as 5G integration for aviation environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and adapt to evolving project requirements.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to climb towers and work at height.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, and high winds.
  • Work performed in outdoor construction environments with exposure to noise, heights, and jobsite hazards.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and provided.

Work Environment

  • Fully onsite position in the location assigned to.  
  • Work performed at active construction sites and infrastructure locations.
  • Travel is not required for this role.

Compensation

Tower Construction Technician – $30.00 – $45.00 per hour

Compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and internal equity considerations.

Crown complies with all applicable state and local pay transparency laws. The listed compensation range represents the good faith salary range for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, geographic considerations, and business needs.
