Job Description:

The Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting applications and services within GS1 US's cloud-based technology platform. This role works closely with product owners, architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to build scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions using modern development practices.

The ideal candidate has experience with .NET development, APIs, cloud technologies, and AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude. This individual is passionate about learning, embraces emerging technologies, and uses AI tools responsibly to improve productivity, code quality, and delivery speed.

ResponsibilitiesSoftware Development
  • Code Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and services using C# and .NET technologies.
  • Build and enhance RESTful APIs and integrations.
  • Develop and optimize database solutions using Azure SQL and other data platforms.
  • Participate in application modernization and cloud-native development initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application defects and performance issues.
AI-Assisted Engineering
  • Leverage AI-powered developer tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, and other approved AI platforms to accelerate development activities.
  • Apply AI tools to code generation, refactoring, documentation, testing, debugging, and analysis.
  • Validate AI-generated code for quality, security, maintainability, and compliance with engineering standards.
  • Stay informed on emerging AI capabilities and incorporate best practices into daily development workflows.
Quality & Delivery
  • Develop software using Test-Driven Development (TDD) and other modern engineering practices to ensure high-quality, maintainable, and reliable solutions.

  • Write unit, integration, and automated tests.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.

QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of software development experience using C# and .NET.
  • Mandatory Knowledge of AI tools and demonstrable skills in AI development and/or Machine Learning
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting RESTful APIs, web applications, and OpenAPI specifications (Swagger), including API documentation, versioning, and integration best practices.
  • Experience with databases such as  Azure SQL
  • Experience working with source control systems such as Git and Azure DevOps or GitHub.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure services such as App Services, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Azure SQL, and Cosmos DB.
  • Experience with YAML based CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar platforms, within a professional software engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with OpenAPI specifications and API documentation.
