Description:Residential Waste Collection Slinger (Helper) – Non-Union

Reports To: Route Supervisor / Residential Driver

Job Summary

The Residential Waste Collection Slinger assists the driver with curbside collection of residential solid waste. This position involves physically loading refuse into collection vehicles, maintaining route efficiency, and ensuring safe, professional service to customers. The role requires physical stamina, attention to safety, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist driver with curbside collection of residential solid waste
  • Load bags, containers, and loose debris into the collection vehicle
  • Move and return roll-out carts to proper locations
  • Maintain steady route pace to ensure timely completion
  • Identify and report prohibited materials or safety hazards
  • Assist with cleanup of spills or debris during collection
  • Follow all company safety policies and driver instructions
  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Communicate effectively with driver and supervisor
  • Represent the company professionally to the public
Safety Responsibilities
  • Follow all company safety procedures
  • Remain alert to traffic, pedestrians, and animals
  • Ride only in designated riding areas of the truck
  • Report injuries, near-misses, or unsafe conditions immediately
Qualifications
  • Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and work as part of a team
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Waste collection or outdoor labor experience preferred, but not required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds repeatedly
  • Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and walking
  • Ability to ride on exterior step of vehicle as permitted
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods
Work Schedule

Early morning start times. Monday through Friday with occasional weekends as required. Overtime may be required based on route demands.
