Responsibilities:


The Youth Coordinator will work with the Director of Education & Wellness and Site Coordinator. The staff will work closely with the Mount Laurel School District to provide a disciplined but creative afterschool program that includes academic enrichment, parent participation workshops, a summer learning camp, and one-on-one tutoring to transform childrenโ€™s lives. Support from the Center continues to the later high school years in the form of assistance with the college application process, SAT prep classes and step-by-step help for parents and teens on how to apply for financial aid. This position includes but is not limited to the following list of specific tasks:


After-school Homework Club

  • Assist with the daily operation of the after-school program for kindergarten โ€“ 8th grade children from 2:15 p.m. โ€“ 6:00 P.M., including distributing healthy snacks, facilitating check-ins and dismissals and leading recreational or mental wellness activities.
  • Produce customized post-homework academic enrichment based on academic needs and teacher feedback.
  • Track enrollment, attendance, and academic progress in database.
  • Facilitate routine communication with parents, including tutoring updates.
  • Provide individual and/or small group tutoring and facilitate 3 clubs throughout the year.
  • Higher Education Preparation-Facilitate career exploration, workshops, tutoring for high school students pursuing higher education or work as needed.
  • Participate in 12 or more hours of professional development annually.

Summer Program

  • Assist with the daily operation a full-time summer program for 1st-6th graders as a lead Camp Counselor, including distributing healthy snacks, facilitating check-ins and dismissals, and leading recreational or mental wellness activities and chaperone duties on field trips.
  • Assist with developmentally appropriate lessons plans to include literacy, STEAM, and physical education, and nutrition.
  • Lead one specialized activity for the summer that will expand studentsโ€™ knowledge, encourage teamwork, and develop positive social-emotional skills.

Community Services

  • Act as a project member/support personnel for all Ethel Lawrence Homes Community Events
  • Assist Director with funding initiatives, including writing donation letters, and pursuing in-kind donations.
  • Create flyers, contribute articles and/or information to community newsletter as needed.

General

  • Strictly adhere to all health and safety guidelines to ensure the general welfare of our students and compliance with NJ Office of Childcare Licensing.
  • Strictly adhere to outlined cleaning and sanitation guidelines for tables, floors, sinks, etc.
  • Inventory Control-utilize computer spreadsheets to manage inventory control for games and recreational equipment.
  • Special Projects may be assigned based on organizational need.



Requirements:

Qualifications:

Incumbents must be:

  • Passionate about working with children.
  • Computer literate with ability to learn new software programs.
  • Able to write legibly and concisely.ย 
  • Remain professional in all aspects of the workplace.
  • Able to work inside and outside.
  • 1 or more years of experience working in a school or afterschool program setting.
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent. Bachelorโ€™s degree in education or social work or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of positive youth development theory and practices.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with multiple audiences.
  • Pass a pre-employment background screening.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing trauma and/or lived experiences of poverty (PREFERRED).
  • Experience in tutoring; specifically, math and reading (PREFERRED).
  • Experience with coaching children and young adults (PREFERRED).
