The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.
Role Purpose
The person in this position will join a team of highly motivated and skilled engineers and technicians to manage, modify, and develop MES systems required to manufacture optical fiber and the associated computer systems to support manufacturing. This person will also participate in or occasionally lead projects to meet the plant's objectives or drive cost reduction efforts.
Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair data issues affecting manufacturing systems and processes.
  • Duties will primarily revolve around building software by writing and modifying code to fix errors and add new functionality as needed for new business requirements.
  • Assist team of engineers to provide production support and troubleshooting for the Wilmington manufacturing operation.
  • Work with production associates, technicians, and engineers to ensure reliable manufacturing operation via automated systems and user interfaces.
  • Support process and product optimization/improvement efforts.
  • Provide training for engineers and/or production associates as needed for new processes.
  • Participate in capital projects.
  • System testing and validation procedures.
  • Software programming and documentation development.
  • Working with departments or customers on project status and proposals.
  • Working with customers or departments on technical issues including software system design and maintenance.
  • Preparing reports on programming project specifications, activities, or status.
  • Some after hours, on-call support may be needed.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent business experience.
  • Previous internship and/or exposure in an IT technical role
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing data issues affecting manufacturing systems.
  • Experience with modern programming languages (Python, C#, .NET, etc.).
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and actionable solutions.
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration across departments.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and passion for continuous learning and digital innovation.
  • Experience working with Manufacturing Execution Systems like Camstar or FactoryWorks
  • Willing to be on off-hours call on a rotational basis in a 24x7 manufacturing environment

The range for this position is $75,511.00 - $103,828.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
