Johnston County is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Description The Johnston County Health Department Preventive Health Division has a full-time Foreign Language Interpreter position available. Duties and Responsibilities Interpretation for the Preventive Health division and clinical setting; interpret accurately from Spanish to English and from English to Spanish written/verbal language as well as office support functions as assigned.

These job duties may include reviewing translated documents for accuracy, creating documents electronically, taking phone messages and returning calls. This position requires working in a variety of clinical areas including pediatrics, obstetrics, adult care and infectious disease and may include home visits or community events/visits. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to translate/interpret all verbal information and written materials in English and the foreign language.

Basic knowledge of the ethics of interpreting. Ability to assess communication skill level of client and exercise judgment in determining services to be rendered. Ability to understand and interpret information in the various dialects of that language.

Working knowledge of the program area. General knowledge of office processes and procedures. Desired Education and Experience Graduation from High School or GED and one year of related experience demonstrating a fluency in English and the foreign language(s) necessary to successfully perform assigned job duties; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
