Description Title: UH Assistant Football Coach (Football Performance Coach) Position Number: 0097705T Hiring Unit: UHM Athletics Location: Football Date Posted: July 30, 2026 Full Time/Part Time: Full Time Temporary/Permanent: Temporary Other Conditions: Continuous recruitment until programmatic needs are met. Duties and Responsibilities *Assists with all aspects of an NCAA Division I (Football Bowl Subdivision) Football Program, with a primary focus on leading the comprehensive physical development and performance strategy of the football student-athletes.
*Oversees strength and conditioning, sports science, injury prevention, recovery protocols, and athlete monitoring systems to optimize player health, readiness, and on-field performance for football student-athletes. *Participates in practices and intercollegiate competitions, teaching necessary skills from basic fundamentals to the advanced techniques and strategies of athletic performance. *Develops training plans aligned with the competitive calendar and team performance goals as assigned by the Head Coach.
*Ensures physical preparation strategies to support both individual development and overall team success. *Analyzes student-athlete performance metrics and provide actionable, data-driven insights to the coaching staff to inform training and game-day decisions. *Creates individualized performance plans tailored to position-specific demands, injury history, and performance objectives.
Monitors student-athlete progress and adjust programming based on performance data and coaching feedback. *Educates student-athletes on recovery, nutrition, sleep, and overall performance habits. *Promotes and maintains a positive team environment where the physical, mental, social, and academic well-being of all student-athletes is the highest priority.
*Assists in the scouting of opponents and evaluation of team performance through the utilization of sports science, including GPS tracking, workload monitoring, performance testing, and film/data analytics. *Assists with maintaining and overseeing athlete monitoring systems and performance technology. *Evaluates and implements emerging technologies and best practices in sports performance.
*Collaborates with sports medicine, athletic training, and rehabilitation staff to minimize injury risk and optimize player health. *Develops and implements injury prevention strategies, movement assessments, and customized return-to-play protocols and reintegration plans for injured athletes. *Participates in staff meetings and assist with strategic planning regarding athlete readiness and workload management to the Head Football Coach and staff.
*Assists with managing the performance department budget, equipment procurement, technology assets, and facility operations. *Responsible for performing the duties of a Campus Security Authority as defined by University policy and federal law with regards to the Clery Act. *Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawaii policies.
*Maintains collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches in the department, other college offices, and appropriate relationships with members of the media, donors, and other individuals interested in the sports program. *Knows, recognizes, and complies with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawai'i and its employees, and the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and of the affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if there is reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees, students, or others, have occurred or will occur.
Other duties as assigned. *Denote Essential Functions Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited four year college or university; Three (3) years of experience in strength and conditioning, sports performance coaching, or football coaching at the college or university level; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Knowledge of principles, contemporary methodologies, and evolving industry standards governing elite athletic physical preparation programs.
Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and travel Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds. Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawaii Driver's license (class 3) or comparable driver's license, or other means of transportation, which meets position needs.
Valid certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association(NSCA), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Certified Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) or Strength and Conditioning Coach (SCCC). Valid First Aid, CPR and AED certification by the employment start date. Computer, cell phone, and social media technology competency.
Desirable Qualifications Strength and conditioning, sports performance coaching, or football coaching experience in a Division I collegiate football program. United State of America Weightlifting Association (USAW) certification.
