Job description

Resource Energy was founded in 2007 with the mission of assisting commercial real estate owners with their energy needs. Resource Energy began expanding its services over the years to other large energy users with a focus on simplifying energy procurement, tenant utility billing, and other energy management services. Today, Resource Energy operates in 48 states with a team of approximately 60 energy analysts, software engineers and other energy professionals The company services nearly one billion square feet of commercial energy load, providing a diverse portfolio of properties and companies with creative and highly customized solutions to their energy needs.
The Energy Markets Analyst supports multiple clients with the responsibility of energy procurement operations. This position is responsible for initiating and managing the Request for Proposal (RFP) process and managing current customer strategies.
The ideal candidate will have excellent customer facing experience working for an energy brokerage, retail energy supplier, energy consultant, utility, or large commercial energy consumer and possess a strong understanding of deregulated electricity and natural gas markets. Candidates should be comfortable evaluating supplier pricing, managing procurement events, and presenting market recommendations to commercial customers and building relationships. Strong verbal communication skills are essential; this is not a purely administrative role.
Duties:
  • Coordinate and run RFP's in all deregulated markets in North America for electricity and natural gas
  • Research and track utility account information
  • Provide customer updates on supply pricing and RFP results
  • Provide written updates to clients on current market fundamentals and outlooks
  • Structure and negotiate energy contracts
  • Employ our wholesale platform to track market movement and identify execution opportunities for clients
  • Assist with forecasting, monitoring, and tracking success of current strategies through reporting of supply and local distribution costs
  • Review ISO and local utility level related charges
  • Solicit and evaluate competitive electricity and natural gas supply proposals from retail energy suppliers.
  • Manage supplier relationships and coordinate procurement events in deregulated energy markets.
  • Analyze supplier pricing structures including fixed-price, index, block-and-index, and other energy procurement products.
  • Develop procurement recommendations based on market conditions, customer risk tolerance, and energy usage characteristics.
  • Maintain knowledge of wholesale energy market fundamentals, including ISO/RTO markets, capacity, transmission, and natural gas market drivers.
  • Negotiate commercial energy contracts and supplier terms on behalf of clients.
  • Present procurement recommendations and market updates directly to commercial and industrial customers.

Qualifications
  • AA/BS degree in Finance, Energy, Mathematics, Economics, Business, or a related analytical discipline preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in energy procurement, retail energy supply, energy brokerage, utility account management, energy consulting, or a related energy market function strongly preferred. Candidates with experience in retail energy, energy procurement, energy consulting, or utility operations is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with commercial electricity and natural gas procurement.
  • Experience working for an energy brokerage, retail energy supplier, utility, or energy consulting firm preferred.
  • Experience evaluating supplier pricing proposals and managing procurement events.
  • Knowledge of deregulated electricity and natural gas markets.
  • Familiarity with ISO/RTO markets (PJM, ERCOT, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, CAISO) preferred.
  • Knowledge of commodity market concepts and energy pricing structures, including fixed-price and index products.
  • Experience interfacing with retail energy customers and energy suppliers.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, project management, and follow-through skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Experience with statistical, analytical, or reporting software preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and shifting deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to research, learn, and work independently.
