Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Plews & Edelmann is looking for a dependable Material Handler to join our team. You will keep our operations moving, packing, labeling, moving, and storing product with accuracy and care across our Packaging, Distribution, Receiving, Production, or Power Steering Hose departments.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Complete forklift training certification.
  • Count, label, bag, and pack product; prepare cartons and apply blister packs or seals.
  • Pick orders for Packaging and Distribution, coordinate transfers between facilities.
  • Unload containers, move material to designated storage locations and load trucks using powered equipment.
  • Perform quality checks, visual inspections, and simple tests to catch obvious defects.
  • Record statistical data to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Complete all task paperwork and participate in annual inventory counts.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as shipping orders, memos, safety rules, general policies, instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Perform required daily forklift safety inspection to ensure safe operation.
  • Follow all safety rules, wear required PPE and maintain a clean work area.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Report any operating problems or machinery issues to supervisor or lead person.
  • Work in other areas as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-year minimum related experience. 2+ years related experience preferred.
  • Forklift experience required
  • Loading and unloading truck experience required.
  • Ability to operate RF scanners and AS400 computer system (a plus)
  • Ability to operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, walkies, and stand-up/sit-down forklifts.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and overtime on short notice.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as shipping orders, memos, safety rules, general policies, instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide including decimals and fractions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis.
  • Push or pull up to 500 lbs. using a hand truck or pallet jack.
  • Stand for up to 8–10 hours per day.
  • Frequent bending and twisting throughout the shift.
  • Move safely and efficiently throughout the plant and warehouse floor.
