Kamehameha Schools, Maui Campus is currently looking for a Full Time Registered Nurse (RN) to support our Elementary School.
Our ideal candidate will have a State of HI RN license, BLS Certification and 3+ years of experience as an RN. Experience with K-12 age youth preferred.
While this is primarily a Mon - Fri position, weekend and/or after hours work may be required on occasion.
The salary range for this position is $95 - 100k.
Job Summary
Provides appropriate and quality nursing care for students and staff following Standing Orders, which may include assessment, outpatient treatment, and convalescent care patients resting or residing in the health room. Provides health education to promote wellness and preventive health care, as appropriate, and assists with medical clearance for students.
Essential Responsibilities
Assessment and Health Care
  • Performs assessment of students and staff that includes the appropriate history and physical, and provides direct care following Standing Orders and other KS policies and procedures, consistent with standard nursing practice guidelines.
  • May provide support on field trips.
  • Responds to emergent situations.
  • Consults with the Medical Director for more seriously ill or injured students or staff and refers for Emergency Services when indicated
  • Coordinates referral of students to appropriate community medical facilities as needed.
  • Performs medical clearance for program entry, and screens students for readmission to school following absences for illness or injury and issues appropriate medical restrictions.
  • Implements provider treatment plans to include dispensing medication and providing ongoing treatment.
  • Determines disposition of students (e.g. return to class, home, sponsor, private medical provider or overnight admission) according to Standing Orders and KS policies and procedures; and maintains professional and supportive communication with parents, staff, providers and other medical facilities regarding students' health status as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with counselors and athletic trainers as appropriate.
  • May coordinate population-based care, such as the Hawaii Department of Health flu shot program.
  • May assist with transporting students on and off campus for medical care when necessary.

Compliance
  • Documents accurately all services provided in the electronic health record, and maintains strict confidentiality of medical records.
  • Assists in screening student health records for abnormalities and other notable conditions, and reviews immunization records for completeness and accuracy.
    Maintains infection control and safety standards in the workplace.

Education
  • Provides health education to promote wellness and preventive health care.
  • Provides TB testing and clearance as well as certain immunizations for employees and volunteers in compliance with Hawaii State Health laws.
  • May be expected to become an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED instructor and provide training to KS employees.

Supervision
  • May supervise the work of Medical Assistants, as assigned, to include providing counseling, coaching and performance feedback on a regular and ongoing basis.

Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current State of Hawaii Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Good interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to perform duties without direct supervision.
  • Must enjoy working with children and adolescents.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required to meet goals and objectives.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with experience in a physician's office, clinic or hospital, preferably in pediatric/adolescent family medicine, emergency room, medical-surgical or equivalent experience.
  • National Association of School Nurses (NASN) membership.
  • Current and valid driver's license.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationships to ensure a positive working environment.
  • Knowledge of healthcare policies & procedures applicable to KS to ensure compliance.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.
  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions
  • This position may involve traveling to other locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Work is conducted in an office/health room environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
