The University of Saint Mary is a Roman Catholic, liberal arts university located in Leavenworth, Kansas, just 25 minutes away from Kansas City. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Creative Services (videographer/photographer) develops and leads innovative video concepts and visual strategies that advance the university’s mission and brand. This role manages photography and video production for marketing, advertising, and university fundraising efforts. Working collaboratively with colleagues, the Assistant Director of Creative Services helps shape and maintain the university’s visual identity while delivering compelling content for diverse audiences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Video shooting, editing, and production.
  • Serve as project lead on video creation—conceptualizing content and producing results on deadline and on budget.
  • Manage all photography/videography requests.
  • Guide scripting and narration of video work, as needed.
  • Direct shots, both candid and staged, depending on video needs.
  • Maintain an organized archive of video work (raw and edited files).
  • Manage livestream broadcasts for select university events, including Commencement, White Coat Ceremonies, Pinning Ceremonies, and other special programs
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding student photographers.
  • Design and deliver training sessions on photography techniques, editing, workflow, and brand guidelines.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and professional development to help students grow in creative and professional skills.
  • Assign student workers to games, events, and projects; manage coverage calendars; ensure deadlines are met.
  • Support and contribute to the comprehensive marketing plan and design standards for the university.
  • Serving as a marketing department representative to other university departments in the development of marketing collateral.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be needed for special events.
  • Performs additional job-related duties, as assigned.
  • Utilize USM’s drone (training can be provided)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of related professional experience preferred.
  • Must provide a demo reel and photography portfolio
  • Familiarity with drone piloting a plus.
  • Proficient in video editing and production, graphic design. studio and event photography.
  • Experience with motion graphic design a plus.
  • Proficient in the following software:
    • Premiere Pro (or other NLE; Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid), After Effects, OBS, Audition, Photoshop, Bridge, InDesign, and Illustrator.
  • Experience with FTP and cloud storage processes.
  • Familiarity with video-over-IP technology (NDI, PTZ)
  • Thorough comprehension of the Mac and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Proficient with the following hardware:
    • DSLR and mirrorless photographic equipment, digital cinema equipment, audio recording devices, and broadcasting equipment (Switchboards, mixers)
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Affinity with the overall mission of the University of Saint Mary.
