Description

This is a hands-on Service Manager role responsible for leading day-to-day operations of a DevOps and Automation team while contributing to the organization’s cloud and automation strategy over the next 1–3 years. The role starts as a contract (remote possible) and converts to a full-time hybrid position (preferred locations include Mechanicsburg, PA or Merrill WI, Milwaukee WI or Madison WI).

What Success Looks Like

• Smooth day-to-day DevOps operations

• Improved ticket throughput and SLA adherence

• Increased automation adoption

Team & Structure

works closely with:

o DevOps team (7 total, including offshore contractor)

o Automation team (2 contractors)

• Will eventually manage teams directly after conversion to full-time

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Operations

• Manage daily operations of a DevOps team (6–7 engineers, including offshore and contractors)

• Lead and mentor DevOps engineers and automation team members

• Ensure work is aligned to SLAs and KPIs

• Act as a hands-on leader, able to step in and resolve issues or take tickets as needed

• Serve as a backup for on-call support

Service & Ticket Management

• Oversee ServiceNow queues and backlog

• Ensure tickets are prioritized, assigned, and resolved efficiently

• Maintain visibility into operational health and service delivery

Automation & Continuous Improvement

• Drive increased automation maturity (currently ~10% automated)

• Identify and implement automation opportunities (e.g., queue management, DR, patching)

• Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver process improvements

• Contribute input on automation tools and technologies (e.g., Selenium)

Technical Oversight

• Support and manage Java-based applications and Apache servers

• Work across a mixed environment including:

- Azure DevOps, Git (CI/CD pipelines)

- AWS & Azure cloud platforms

- ServiceNow, Control-M, Pega, Guidewire

• Oversee job scheduling and reporting processes (via Control-M)

• Support transition from on-prem to SaaS (Control-M migration planned for 2027)

Strategy & Transformation

• Contribute to 1-, 2-, and 3-year technology roadmap

• Support ongoing cloud migration strategy (increasing focus on AWS)

• Help guide modernization efforts including:

- SaaS adoption Automation expansion

-System transitions (e.g., Guidewire for claims/billing)
