B2Gold is a responsible international senior gold producer headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. Founded in 2007, today, B2Gold has operating gold mines in Canada, Mali, Namibia and the Philippines, and numerous development and exploration projects in various countries.

 

Position

Senior Specialist, Exploration AI Platform & Deployment

Introduction

Reporting to the Director, Exploration Strategy & AI Innovation, the role is responsible for deploying, operating, and scaling the data and AI infrastructure that supports B2Gold's internal AI platform. The successful candidate enjoys taking AI solutions from prototype to reliable production, building and maintaining the underlying data and retrieval infrastructure, and ensuring the platform is secure, scalable, and accessible across the organization. The role will play a key role in developing the internal platform and tools that enable the global exploration group to effectively manage large volumes of geoscience and project data while integrating modern AI capabilities into day-to-day workflows within a secure, governed cloud environment. The role requires a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, data platforms, AI deployment, and operational best practices, along with the ability to translate technical requirements into practical, reliable solutions. This is a senior, hands-on individual contributor role with a high degree of ownership and autonomy.  International and domestic travel will be required.

Location

This is a full-time position based at B2Gold's Corporate Office in Vancouver, Canada. The role follows our hybrid work model of four days in-office and one day remote each week.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Deploy and operate AI and data applications within production environments, taking into account performance, scalability, and operational reliability;
  • Design, build, and maintain the data and retrieval infrastructure that supports AI solutions, including data ingestion pipelines, indexing services, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) capabilities across B2Gold's knowledge and document base;
  • Integrate and manage data from a variety of internal and external sources, ensuring data pipelines are accurate, efficient, well-documented, and maintained in accordance with established standards;
  • Implement and maintain Exploration's AI platform components in accordance with corporate governance, cybersecurity, privacy, and data access requirements established in collaboration with IT and Legal;
  • Collaborate with technical, geoscience, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical, production-ready AI and data solutions that support operational objectives;
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, operational standards, and best practices to support ongoing platform management and knowledge sharing; and,
  • Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience building, operating and supporting production software and data systems;
  • Experience deploying and managing cloud infrastructure, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization, monitoring, and platform reliability;
  • Strong data engineering experience, including data ingestion, systems integration, and management of relational and/or vector databases;
  • Experience deploying AI solutions, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) or other LLM-based applications, is considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to independently deliver technical solutions while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy; and,
  • Ability to work under pressure with a high level of commitment to meeting deadlines and producing high quality work.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, vector databases, and retrieval pipelines;
  • Experience developing and deploying AI solutions using Microsoft Azure and Azure AI Foundry;
  • Knowledge of MLOps and/or LLMOps practices;
  • Experience developing straightforward user-facing interfaces on top of backend services;
  • Familiarity with modern AI development tools and integration frameworks, such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP); and,
  • Experience in mining, natural resources, or other technical or scientific data environments is considered a strong asset.

Job Demands/Physical Requirements:

  • This position will be based at B2Gold's corporate office in Vancouver, Canada, with a hybrid work arrangement (4 days on site + 1 day working from home); and,
  • With 10% international travel, occasionally on short notice.

B2Gold offers a competitive compensation package, including base salary commensurate with the candidate's experience, knowledge and skill set, and a comprehensive benefit package for employees and their eligible dependents. The base salary range for this position is CAD $120,000 - $154,000 per annum, which is the anticipated pay at the time of hire but does not reflect similar future job opportunities.
