What is a full time creative writing MFA?

A Full Time Creative Writing MFA is a graduate-level program focused on developing advanced writing skills in genres such as fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and more. MFA stands for Master of Fine Arts, and these programs typically last two to three years, requiring students to attend classes and workshops on a full-time basis. Students work closely with faculty and peers to refine their craft, often culminating in a thesis or portfolio of original work. The program also provides opportunities for networking, teaching experience, and preparing for careers in writing, academia, or related fields.

What are some common challenges faced by individuals in a full time creative writing MFA program and how can they be addressed?

Students in a Full Time Creative Writing MFA program often encounter challenges such as managing intensive writing schedules, balancing coursework with creative projects, and handling constructive criticism in workshop settings. It's important to develop strong time management skills and to seek support from peers and faculty mentors. Actively participating in workshops and engaging with the writing community can also help students gain confidence and improve their craft. Taking advantage of campus resources, such as writing centers or counseling services, can further support a positive and productive MFA experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative writing MFA graduate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creative Writing MFA graduate, you need advanced writing skills, a solid understanding of literary techniques, and typically a master's degree in fine arts with a focus on creative writing. Familiarity with publishing platforms, editing software, and workshop-based feedback systems is often required. Strong imagination, resilience to critique, and effective communication help individuals stand out in this field. These skills and qualities are essential for producing compelling work, navigating the publishing industry, and fostering professional growth as a writer.

Position Summary

EO.F is seeking a full-time Associate Producer to join its Production Team. In this role, you'll support the development and delivery of content across multiple projects and channels, working hands-on in production from pre-production through final delivery. You'll work closely with and report directly to the Head of Programming & Content Development, Tim Silfies, and be embedded in real projects alongside experienced producers — contributing meaningfully to the work while building your skills across all aspects of production.

Specific skills and experience are important, but they are far less important than mindset and approach to getting the job done as part of a team. Candidates will be judged overwhelmingly on demonstration of the core competencies below.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support producers across active projects in pre-production, production, and post-production phases.
  • Source crew, locations, production vendors, and other resources as needed.
  • Schedule and communicate with guests for interviews and podcast recordings.
  • Coordinate travel logistics including flights, accommodations, and vehicle rentals.
  • Serve as the primary on-set contact for below-the-line crew and vendors during production.
  • Ensure studios are properly configured and ready for shoots.
  • Assemble string-out cuts and pull clip selects as requested by producers.
  • Track and manage production calendars across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Coordinate with post-production to track deliverables and deadlines.
  • Research topics, subjects, and interview guests to support editorial development.
  • Complete research assignments and fact-check research materials, creative writing, and technical content.
  • Assist with writing assignments, including research summaries, content outlines, and interview prep materials.
  • Source and add materials to project research libraries; maintain and organize the production team's digital libraries across all tools and platforms.
  • Support sourcing of audiovisual materials for use in videos.
  • Upload finished content to YouTube and social media channels, including metadata entry, prior to publication.
  • Support the production team in organizing and prioritizing tasks across concurrent projects.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a paid, full-time position offering a base salary commensurate with experience. Benefits include robust group PPO health insurance with a wide range of plan options via United Healthcare's Choice Plus Network, plus wellness and other benefits. Must be able to work legally in the US.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and the position will remain open until filled.
