What is a full time crash test dummy?

Full Time Crash Test Dummies are individuals employed to participate in vehicle safety testing by simulating the effects of car crashes on the human body. While most modern crash tests use anthropomorphic test devices (mechanical dummies), human volunteers are sometimes used for specific low-risk tests, such as assessing seat comfort, ergonomics, or minor impact scenarios. The primary goal is to gather data that helps improve automotive safety features and reduce injuries in real-world accidents. Full time crash test dummies typically work with engineers and safety professionals in controlled environments, following strict safety protocols.

What safety protocols and support systems are in place for full time crash test dummies during testing?

Full-time crash test dummies work in highly controlled environments where safety is a top priority. Before each test, dummies are carefully inspected and fitted with advanced sensors to monitor impact forces. The testing team follows strict protocols to minimize risk, including remote operation of vehicles, protective barriers, and immediate medical support on standby. Regular briefings and debriefings help address any concerns and ensure that the well-being of team members is maintained throughout the testing process.
