What is a full time contingency FedEx driver?

Full Time Contingency FedEx Drivers are employees who fill in for regular FedEx delivery drivers when they are unavailable due to vacation, illness, or other reasons. These drivers work full-time hours and are responsible for picking up and delivering packages along various routes as needed. Their role requires flexibility, as they may be assigned to different areas or shifts depending on operational needs. They are expected to maintain high standards of safety, customer service, and package handling, just like regular FedEx drivers.

What are some common challenges faced by full time contingency FedEx drivers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Full-time contingency FedEx drivers often face challenges such as adapting quickly to new routes, managing time efficiently during high-volume delivery periods, and maintaining communication with dispatch teams. Since contingency drivers may cover for different regular drivers or routes, flexibility and strong organizational skills are essential. Building familiarity with various delivery areas and leveraging route-planning tools can help overcome these challenges, while maintaining a positive attitude and open communication with the team ensures smooth operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time contingency FedEx driver?

To excel as a Full Time Contingency FedEx Driver, candidates need a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, knowledge of delivery routes, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with handheld scanning devices, GPS navigation systems, and package management software is typically required. Excellent time management, customer service, and problem-solving skills help drivers handle dynamic schedules and customer interactions effectively. These competencies ensure reliable, timely deliveries and positive customer experiences, which are critical to FedEx’s operational success.

Job description

FedEx Business Route Pickup & Delivery Driver – No CDL necessary!  Competitive pay, monthly bonuses, well-maintained trucks, Home for Dinner!
QIC Corporation
$20-21/hour
Seeking Full-Time
Unique Business Route available.  The Business Route hours are generally 8:45 AM to 7-7:30pm, Monday to Friday.  Due to the nature of the longer hours, we can discuss the opportunity to work 4 or 5 days a week, your choice, depending on the number of hours you would like to accrue per week.  The Business Route delivers to & picks up from Western Shawnee & Lenexa area businesses.
QIC seeks a Full-Time or Part-Time FedEx Pickup & Delivery Driver. You can work by yourself, deliver a wide variety of packages to businesses in the Western Shawnee & Lenexa area, drive a well-maintained FedEx vehicle, and be part of our positive QIC team atmosphere. QIC encourages healthy work & balance of life. A QIC schedule will allow you to be home for dinner.
QIC will energetically seek to create a schedule to work best for you. All QIC positions are Day Shifts, with opportunity to work Full-Time or Part-Time. Schedules may range from 1-5 days/week depending on your needs. In addition, if preferred, QIC has weekend only shifts available as well.
This is a fast-paced position with positive interactions and results to your day!
Tasks include using a GPS system, delivering packages, following safety & DOT regulations, and maintaining time. We do not micromanage! QIC Corp combines forward-thinking along with cultivating an environment of respect for its employees.
A general day in the life of a QIC FedEx Pickup & Delivery Driver consists of beginning the day at the QIC Corp hub location between 7:30-8:00 am, completing a pre-trip inspection.  While FedEx loaders load your truck, a driver's responsibility to organization & efficiency reduces time and maximizes a positive daily outcome. Once efficiently loaded & released, you will have a short drive to the delivery area in Western Shawnee & Lenexa to complete the delivery of packages. Packages come in all shapes, sizes, and weights. While some packages may be small to medium, FedEx allows larger packages up to a maximum 150lbs. With larger packages, you will have assistance from dollies (and teammates if necessary). This position is an active, physical, and fast-paced position. You will be bending, bending at the knees, lifting, moving quickly, delivering a large volume of packages, and working in the KS weather. Upon completing your day, you will return your truck to the terminal.
