Job description

Are you looking for an opportunity to do challenging, creative work that makes a real impact? Would you like to be part of a company that respects individual contributions and thrives on collaboration? Do you love to win? Then consider joining Wight & Company. We're a nationally recognized, award-winning architecture, engineering, and construction firm known for a dynamic company culture that fosters innovation and challenges the status quo, and we're looking for a talented professional to join our team.
The Construction Safety Manager is responsible for the overall health and safety of personnel on-site and in the Wight Offices. You will develop, implement, and lead safety initiatives that comply with all local, state, and federal regulations while fostering a proactive culture of risk prevention and accountability.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Policy Development: Collaborate with project teams to develop site-specific safety plans (SSSP) and emergency procedures for each project.
  • Leadership: Champion a proactive safety culture and drive accountability at all organizational levels.
  • Program Management: Monitor safety metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate effectiveness and report trends to senior leadership.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Stay current on emerging industry standards, technologies, and regulatory changes impacting construction safety.
  • Field Oversight: Conduct safety inspections and comprehensive audits to identify hazardous conditions or non-compliant behaviors.
  • Team Education: Facilitate safety orientations for new hires, and specialized training (e.g., fall protection, scaffolding, or confined spaces).
  • Incident Management: Lead the investigation of any accidents or near-misses, perform root-cause analysis, and document findings to prevent future occurrences.
  • Compliance: Maintain all required OSHA documentation, including 300 logs, and ensure the project remains in total compliance with safety legislation.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Act as the primary point of contact for insurance carriers, OSHA inspectors, and internal leadership regarding safety metrics.

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE EXPECTATIONS:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of dedicated safety experience in a construction environment (commercial preferred).
  • Certifications:
    • OSHA 30-Hour (Construction) is required.
    • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) preferred.
    • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

KEY SKILLS
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to use safety management software (like Procore) for reporting and tracking.
  • Communication:Strong ability to relay complex safety protocols clearly to diverse groups, from field laborers to executives.
  • Problem Solving: Quick thinking to mitigate immediate hazards without halting project momentum unnecessarily.

Salary Range: $105,000 - $135,000. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.
