Job description

Basic Job Purpose:

Under the direction of the plant manager, shift supervisor and/or other designated lead personnel the cuber operator maintains the facility in a clean, orderly and hazard free condition. This position will perform general work on the cuber machine (operating, monitoring and maintaining).  As necessary, and when requested, the cuber operator assists with the operation of the block machine and associated equipment to produce quality concrete products from raw materials, following established policies and procedures in a safe and efficient manner. 


Essential Functions or Duties:

  • Follow all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Visually inspect products and by-products for conformity to prescribe quality standards such as color, shape, and corners.  Remove inferior quality products and by-products as required.
  • Make minor adjustments and repairs on machinery, such as removing jams.
  • Learn and correctly use the appropriate sorting and stacking patterns for each product as required on the cubing machine. Operate the computer to change codes for stacking patterns.
  • Monitor the operation of cuber, pallet injector, depalleter, turntable, conveyor, stretch wrap machine, block machine and other nearby equipment to detect and report malfunctions.
  • Perform quality control on dry block line and fill out documentation.
  • Empty reject dumpsters, clean loose material from around conveyors and batching equipment.
  • Perform other functions and duties as required or directed, such as assisting with maintenance and repair of machinery, cleaning mixer and hoppers and other production equipment and assisting with training of new employees.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to operate fork trucks and receive certification on same.
  • Basic computer skills to operate cuber control panels with electronic switches.
  • Use, read and understand rulers and tape measures.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical applications.
  • Read, write and speak English as required by safety standards and job expectations.
  • Basic math skills, i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplying, dividing and averaging, to track discarded material and calculate block quantities to build programs.
  • Possess professional interpersonal skills in order to understand and communicate with all team members. Ability to work with others as well as independently when required.

Minimum Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform duties requiring bending, stooping, squatting, and crawling at least 50% of shift. Requires standing 75% of shift (Based on 8–10-hour shift).
  • Must be able to lift concrete products and other objects weighing up to 95 pounds each from floor level to heights up to 4 feet.
  • Must be able to climb ladders up to 7 feet to access material hoppers and equipment platforms.
  • Work in facility with seasonal temperatures ranging from 25° to 100° F.
