Role Description


The MEP CAD Drafter – HVAC / Building Services is a full-time, on-site role based in Markham, ON. The person in this role prepares detailed HVAC and building services drawings using CAD software, converting engineering concepts and markups into accurate technical plans and coordinated layouts. Daily responsibilities include developing and updating mechanical and electrical drawings, revising plans based on engineer and architect feedback, and ensuring alignment with project specifications, codes, and standards. The role involves coordinating with engineers and designers, assisting in clash detection and layout adjustments, organizing drawing sets for submissions, and maintaining drawing files and documentation. The drafter also supports the team by producing clear, consistent drawings for permitting, tender, and construction, and may participate in site-related design reviews as required.


Responsibilities


  • Prepare and revise HVAC and mechanical drawings using MEP CAD
  • Draft ductwork, ventilation, exhaust, equipment, and mechanical layouts
  • Prepare mechanical details, sections, schedules, and drawing notes
  • Prepare drawings based on engineer and designer markups
  • Work with architectural and structural backgrounds
  • Coordinate mechanical drawings with electrical, plumbing, sprinkler, architectural, and structural drawings
  • Prepare permit and construction drawing packages
  • Revise drawings based on engineering, municipal, client, and contractor comments
  • Maintain company MEP CAD standards and drawing quality
  • Assist engineers and designers with drawing production and coordination
  • Assist with site measurements and site visits when required
  • Prepare and update as-built drawings when required


Experience


  • Candidates should possess strong skills in Technical Drawing and Drawing for building services and mechanical systems.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Engineering Drawings to interpret and translate mechanical and electrical designs into detailed plans.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Architectural Drawings to coordinate MEP layouts with architectural floor plans and sections.
  • Candidates should possess proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools commonly used in MEP and HVAC drafting (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit or similar).
  • Diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, Building Systems, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience drafting HVAC, plumbing, and building services drawings for commercial or institutional projects is an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes and standards related to mechanical and electrical systems is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to follow design guidelines, and effective communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
