Job description

The RTLS Engineer is responsible for the installation, configuration, support, and maintenance of Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) and related clinical applications that enable critical patient care across CentraCare health locations. These systems include, Infant & Patient Protection, Staff Duress, Emergency Communication Systems, Temperature & Environmental Monitoring, Bio-Medical Engineering & Clinical Asset Tracking, Nurse Call, and Wayfinding solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Implementation & Support: Install, configure, and maintain RTLS and integrated clinical systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
  • System Maintenance & Upgrades: Apply scheduled vendor releases, perform system upgrades, and resolve defects while maintaining high system availability.
  • Technical Analysis: Assist in defining system requirements, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring data integrity across applications.
  • Workflow Integration: Collaborate with clinical teams to configure tools, support workflows, and provide education on system functionality to improve productivity and patient safety.
  • Testing & Documentation: Execute testing for new features and upgrades, maintain accurate documentation for all assigned applications, and follow established change management protocols.
  • Communication: Share updates on system changes, enhancements, and procedures with internal departments and clinical teams.

This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with clinical and technical teams to deliver reliable solutions that support patient care.

Schedule:

  • Full-time | 80 hours every two weeks | St. Cloud and Willmar
  • Day shift | 8-hour shifts | 8am - 4:30pm
  • No weekends or holidays
  • Travel to CentraCare locations is required with this position

Pay and Benefits:

  • Starting pay begins at $80,683.20 per year; exact wage determined by years of related experience

  • Salary range:  $80,683.20 - $121,035.20 per year

    • Salary and salary range are based on a 1.0 FTE, reduced FTE will result in a prorated offer rate

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; equivalent work experience in computer science field working with system software applications can be substituted in lieu of education
  • Minimum of two years working in Information Systems managing and supporting application systems required
  • One year of technical oversight and administration of direct patient care system applications and real time location services (RTLS) systems required
  • Knowledge and experience working with server (Microsoft & Linux) system concepts and applications preferred
  • Knowledge of database administration, architecture, data query techniques, and troubleshooting related issues preferred
  • Strong Knowledge of data analytics and data analysis techniques; used for raw location data analysis and optimization
  • Strong knowledge of IP networking principles including wireless configurations, wireless authentication (802.1X), SSL certificate generation and management, IP & MAC address, and data flow concepts.
  • Knowledge and Experience with Application API configurations.
  • Knowledge of RTLS (Real Time Location Services) including system design, configuration, programming, deployment, optimization, and support.
  • Knowledge of various messaging protocols such as CAP, SNPP, WCTP, SIP, TAP.
  • Knowledge of RTLS protocols including 2.4/5Ghz, Passive/Active BLE, NFC, RFID, LF, Ultra-Wide Band and Ultrasound
  • Knowledge of IT/OT Integrations and Networking RF principles
  • Knowledge of Cisco Location Infrastructure and Principles; including gRPC connection flow, BLE/TAG RSSI event management, local-firehose management, and controller-connector-engine roles.
  • Experience with SMS messaging and API Calls. 
  • Knowledge of wireless frequencies and RSSI strength relations.
  • Experience working with expressions for coding.
  • Familiar with complex mathematical concepts such as performing "Mean Kinetic Temperature (MKT)" calculations in line with USP 1079.2 pharmacy physicochemical degradation.
  • Familiar with Java (including JMX Console and MBean) and HTML/XML application programming.
  • Familiar with Linux OS (Ubuntu), Intermediate level CLI interactions
  • Familiar with packet capture and analysis techniques
  • Familiar with configuring and supporting access controls including Microsoft AD, LDAP, and SSO
  • Microsoft Suite Skills, specifically Microsoft Excel or similar.
  • A valid Minnesota driver's license and a driving record in good standing may be required.
