Job Title: Communications Coordinator

Reports To: Communications Director

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Employment Status: Full-time

Work Location: Hybrid. This position will have the ability to work from home with weekly in-office requirements.


Overview:

Healthy Birth Day, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of stillbirth, is seeking a full-time Communications Coordinator to join our team.

The Communications Coordinator supports Healthy Birth Day, Inc. (HBD) and the Count the Kicks program by executing a broad range of internal and external communications efforts led by the Communications Director. This role coordinates external initiatives including press releases, digital and print materials, and event promotions. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for writing, creating and editing materials, while upholding brand standards and following messaging guidelines across all platforms. This position coordinates and works cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure campaigns are effective, consistent, and reflect the organization's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and health equity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Digital Communications Support
    • Support organizational email distribution, including drafting/sending emails and maintaining accurate email contact lists within HBD’s email platform.
    • Maintain the organization's texting platform by sending regular text messages to key audience groups and maintaining text list opt-ins.
  • Content Creation & Brand Consistency
    • Use online design tools (e.g., Canva, Piktochart) to create, edit, and maintain communications materials.
    • Follow, create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve efficiency and consistency.
    • Utilize Healthy Birth Day, Inc. and Count the Kicks brand standards across all communication platforms and presentations.
    • Maintain consistent messaging and strictly follow FAQs, talking points, and other guidelines provided by the Communications Director.
  • External Communications & Campaign Coordination
    • Coordinate and execute external communications initiatives, including press releases, radio ads, billboards, presentation slides, program materials, promotional banners, printed materials and emails for webinars and other events.
    • Support promotion of webinars, conferences and other events, including creating graphics and sending emails through Campaign Monitor.
    • Uphold and advocate for diversity and inclusion in all communications, ensuring the organization’s message resonates with diverse audiences and elevates health equity.
  • Project & Website Management
    • Work in Monday.com to manage communications deliverables, ensuring timely and accurate project management.
    • Administer and optimize software platforms that enable communications, and HBD team workflows (e.g., SimpleBooklet, Critical Mention).
    • Assist with updates to website content in alignment with organizational talking points and brand standards; ensure accuracy and accessibility.
  • Other Duties:
    • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the organization’s mission and objectives.


    Education and Experience:

    • Minimum of an Associate’s degree with 3+ years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations or related field.

    • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
    • Highly organized and self-motivated
    • Sound knowledge of key tools including Canva, Piktochart, or other design platforms

    Travel: Not expected outside of the Des Moines Metro

    Location: Clive, IA with weekly in office requirements but ability to work hybrid after 3 months of employment
