Job description

Our Mission

  • Positively transforming learning and life outcomes for students through educational justice, equity, and excellence.  

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator's License (preferred)
  • Background and experience in color guard, winter guard, dance, choreography, marching band, or related student performance activities
  • Ability to design and teach age-appropriate choreography, movement, and equipment technique
  • Experience working with high school students (preferred)
  • Possess good human relations and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead color guard rehearsals, sectionals, performances, and competition preparation in coordination with the Band Director
  • Design, teach, revise, and clean age-appropriate choreography, staging, movement, and approved equipment work
  • Teach safe handling of flags, rifles, sabres, props, and other approved equipment and establish expectations for attendance, conduct, attire, and equipment care
  • Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, travel, and competitions and comply with District safety and student-accountability procedures
  • Assist with costumes, props, equipment inventory, fitting, setup, storage, transportation, and maintenance planning
  • Collaborate with the Band Director, other program staff, families, volunteers, and building administration

Compensation

  • This is a Differential position.  The differential pay scale can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Champaign Federation of Teachers, which is available on our website.  Coaches with 5+ years of experience are compensated at a higher rate than those with more limited experience.  Employment as a coach is on an at-will basis.

Important Notes

  • The season for this sport typically begins in mid-August.  The exact dates are determined based on IHSA rules and the schedule for State events.  More detailed questions regarding the schedule can be directed to the Athletic Director at the school.
