What is a full time church vocalist?

Full Time Church Vocalists are professional singers employed by a church to lead and perform music during worship services, special events, and other church functions. Their responsibilities often include singing solos, harmonizing with choirs or bands, and helping create a spiritually uplifting atmosphere for congregants. In addition to performing, they may also assist in rehearsals, select music, and sometimes participate in planning worship services. Full time positions typically require strong vocal skills, a passion for worship, and a commitment to the church's mission and community.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time church vocalist?

To thrive as a Full Time Church Vocalist, you need strong vocal ability, music theory knowledge, and experience performing in worship or choral settings, often supported by formal vocal training. Familiarity with sound systems, microphones, and worship planning software like Planning Center is typically required. Excellent teamwork, adaptability, and spiritual sensitivity help vocalists connect with both their team and congregation. These skills are vital for delivering consistent, inspiring performances that enhance worship experiences and support the church’s mission.

What are some common challenges faced by a full time church vocalist, and how can they be managed?

Full-time church vocalists often face challenges such as maintaining vocal health during frequent services and rehearsals, adapting to diverse musical styles, and collaborating with both musicians and church leadership. Managing these challenges involves practicing good vocal care habits, staying flexible with various genres (from traditional hymns to contemporary worship), and communicating openly with the worship team. Building strong relationships within the team and seeking regular feedback can also help vocalists grow and thrive in their role.

WORSHIP PASTOR

Colorado Springs, CO 80907

Overview

Full-Time | Trace Church | 3,500+ Weekly Attendance

Vision & Calling

At Trace Church, we believe worship is more than music — it is spiritual formation, discipleship, and leadership development expressed through song and surrendered lives.

The Worship Pastor is more than a service leader; this pastor is a shepherd of people and a cultivator of culture. This leader will build a thriving worship ministry by developing vocalists and worship leaders in their craft, culture, character, and relationship with Christ.

We believe we are not paid for performance, but for preparation. The Worship Pastor models spiritual health, personal discipline, and relational maturity so that the ministry never outpaces the leader.

Worship Pastor Position Overview

The Worship Pastor leads and oversees the entire worship ministry of Trace Church across all services and environments. This role focuses heavily on:

  • Recruiting and developing worship leaders and vocalists.
  • Shaping and strengthening the worship culture.
  • Shepherding the spiritual lives of team members.
  • Ensuring worship gatherings are spiritually powerful and musically excellent.

This role requires both pastoral depth and musical excellence to lead a growing congregation of 3,500+ people into authentic, Spirit-led worship.

Primary Responsibilities

Spiritual & Pastoral Leadership
  • Shepherd the worship ministry as a pastor first and musician second.
  • Provide intentional discipleship for worship leaders, vocalists and musicians.
  • Develop leaders in character, humility, holiness, and spiritual maturity.
  • Establish rhythms of prayer, devotion, and spiritual growth for the team.
  • Lead through conflict biblically while cultivating a culture of honor and unity.
Recruitment & Team Building
  • Proactively recruit high-capacity vocalists and musicians.
  • Oversee audition processes with excellence and clarity.
  • Build and maintain a sustainable leadership pipeline.
  • Identify potential worship leaders and create intentional growth pathways.
  • Ensure teams are large enough to support growth and multiple services.
  • Develop bench strength for future campuses and expansion.
Worship Leader Development (Craft, Culture, Character, & Christ)

The Worship Pastor is responsible for developing worship leaders holistically in the following areas:

  • Craft
    • Train vocalists in harmony, blend, tone, pitch, and stage awareness.
    • Develop worship leaders in song selection, transitions, and flow.
    • Coach leaders in communication and congregational engagement.
    • Lead rehearsals with musical excellence and intentional feedback.
    • Develop leaders’ proficiency on primary instruments.
  • Culture
    • Shape a team culture marked by humility, unity, honor, and excellence.
    • Establish clear standards for preparation and professionalism.
    • Reinforce that platform ministry flows from private devotion.
    • Create an environment where growth, feedback, and accountability are embraced.
  • Character
    • Model and teach integrity, servanthood, and emotional health.
    • Develop leaders who are spiritually mature before they are platform-ready.
    • Provide consistent pastoral care and mentorship.
  • Relationship with Christ
    • Ensure leaders prioritize personal devotion over performance.
    • Cultivate a culture grounded in prayer and dependence on the Holy Spirit.
    • Develop worship leaders who lead from overflow, not obligation.
Weekend Worship Leadership
  • Lead worship for all weekend services and major church events.
  • Provide strong, engaging vocal leadership for a congregation of 3,500+.
  • Create Christ-centered worship experiences aligned with teaching themes.
  • Design worship sets that flow seamlessly and support the direction of each service.
  • Model authentic worship both on and off stage.
Music Leadership & Production Partnership
  • Champion musical excellence across all services.
  • Lead band arrangements and rehearsals with clarity and direction.
  • Collaborate closely with production, lighting, and media teams.
  • Continuously evaluate and elevate the overall worship environment.
Strategic Leadership & Growth
  • Develop scalable systems to support continued growth.
  • Identify, recruit and prepare worship leaders across ministries and possible future campuses.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Pastor of Creative Arts on long-term vision and strategy, with final approval resting with Executive Pastor.
  • Build a worship culture that can multiply beyond a single leader.
