Job description

Manufacturing Engineer designs, implements, and optimizes the production processes that transform raw materials into finished products. Their primary goal is to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure high quality and safety throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.

Core Responsibilities

  • Process Design & Optimization: Analyze existing workflows to identify bottlenecks and implement Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies to reduce waste.
  • Equipment & Tooling: Evaluate, source, and install new manufacturing equipment and design custom tools, jigs, or fixtures to improve production capability.
  • Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Troubleshooting: Provide hands-on floor support to resolve technical malfunctions or production issues as they arise.
  • Quality & Compliance: Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for defects and ensure all processes meet ISO 9001 or industry-specific regulatory standards.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Collaborate with design engineers on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews to ensure new products can be produced economically.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering is typically required.
  • Technical Software: Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks, and familiarity with ERP/MRP systems like SAP.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to use statistical tools (e.g., Minitab) and analytical methods (e.g., FMEA) to solve complex production challenges.
  • Industry Certifications:
    • Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE): Recommended for those with 8+ years of experience.
    • Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt: Highly valued for process improvement roles.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP): Useful for managing large-scale capital equipment installations.

Work Environment

Manufacturing engineers split their time between a temperature-controlled office and the production floor, which can be noisy and require Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
