JOB TITLE: Teacher - Chorus
DEPARTMENT: Calvary Christian Academy
REPORTS TO: Principal
STATUS: Exempt; Teaching Professionals Calendar
HOURS: Full Time (40)
LOCATION: Calvary Christian Academy, Fort Lauderdale

Purpose Statement:
The purpose of this position is to make disciples through a biblical school environment that seeks to glorify God spiritually, academically, and socially with regards to music. The responsibility of the above position is to integrate a biblical perspective into the study, practice, and performance of music. The more specific focus will be to train Secondary students to be the best vocalists and musicians they can be. This is to be carried out through a well-planned year of classes, rehearsals, performances, and opportunities for individual musical growth.
Scope:
The Secondary Vocal Music Teacher is responsible for the recruitment, actions, and development of the Choral program at Calvary Christian Academy. The teacher is responsible for interacting with the Fine Arts Director and colleagues within the music department, striving to meet the state and national standards for music education within the context of the choral and general music classroom. The coordination of music for secondary chapels is also the responsibility of the Vocal Music Teacher. This involves interaction with the CCFL student ministry with regards to music and facility issues. In addition, the Vocal Music Teacher will serve as the Middle School CCA Choir Director for both CCA and other local performances, as well as FVA state festivals and other activities as directed by the Fine Arts Director.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Model Christ in word and deed
  • Take guidance and counsel from your Department Head
  • Write lesson plans for all classes on a weekly basis
  • Teach entire assigned curriculum utilizing national standards and biblical integration
  • Establish and maintain communication with parents as specified by administrative policy
  • Read Calvary Christian Academy email/staff communications and respond if requested
  • Be available for student questions, concerns, and ministry before or after school
  • Attend/participate in Back to School Night and other school scheduled events by the administration
  • Participate in the accreditation process for the school’s continuous improvement plan
  • Participate in professional development to stay current in your field.
  • Participate in scheduled department meetings
  • Fulfill any assigned supervisor duties
  • Decorate classroom seasonally, scripturally, and quarterly
  • Prepare interims and report cards quarterly and post grades weekly, and maintain accurate records on each student
  • Discipline with love and enforce established conduct policy
  • Provide remediation or enrichment for students as necessary
  • Participate in Small Groups ministry
  • Attend the Chapel that is scheduled for your predominant grade level
  • Adhere to specified professional dress code
  • Compile and maintain an up to date substitute folder
  • Secure and straighten up the classroom at the end of each day
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds and sit or stand for an extended period of time
Qualifications/Skills/Gifts:
  • A love to teach as unto the Lord and lead/live by the Word.
  • The Call of God to serve as a teacher.
  • A strong commitment to the philosophies and mission of Calvary Chapel as well as the educational philosophies of Calvary Christian Academy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with regard to children, their parents, and colleagues.
  • Spiritual gifts of teaching, discernment, administration, leadership, service, and exhortation.
  • Group facilitation skills.
  • Degree in music education, teaching certification in 6-12 music or pursuing certification
  • Florida State Certification in high school music education and/or Florida Professional Certification, ACSI certification or CSI certification.
  • Continuing professional development.
  • High level of music literacy
  • Proficient piano skills
  • High proficiency levels in sight-reading/Choral technique
  • Competent computer skills.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Full time (40 hours/week); however, may be required to work an evening or weekend day to attend a CCA event, or assist with a special project or in an circumstantial emergency affecting the church facilities.
