POSITION SUMMARY:
The Carl G. Grefenstette Center for Ethics in Science, Technology, and Lawseeks a one-year postdoctoral fellow to join a community of researchers at theintersection of critical technology studies, critical AI studies, communitytechnology, ethics, Christian theology, Catholic Social Teaching, and religiousethics more generally.
Funded by a grantfrom the Hillman Foundation, this postdoctoral fellow will work on asubstantial research project, as well as participate in the teaching life ofthe center. The role will involve co-teaching one class each semester plusteaching a solo class in Spring 2027, research (solo and collaborative), participating in Center events and programs,leading a colloquium on campus, assisting in the successful implementation ofCenter's mission and vision.
Applicants from all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply, including-butnot limited to- Catholic theology, Christian theology, computer science, historyand philosophy of science, philosophy, religious studies, science andtechnology studies, sociology. The program is open to U.S. and internationalpostdoctoral researchers.
The Teaching and Research Postdoctoral Fellow will receive $65,000 each year in salary, $1,000 each year in dedicatedresearch funds, $1,000 each year in conference travel funds, and DuquesneUniversity benefits.
This is aone-year position with a possibility of renewal.
Thisis a hybrid position, with regular on-campus work required.
Minimum qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Catholic theology, Christian theology, computerscience, history and philosophy of science, philosophy, religious studies, scienceand technology studies, sociology, or related field from an accredited educationalinstitution.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with theUniversity Community.
Ability and willingness to contribute actively to the mission of the Universityand to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of Duquesne University.
