Job Description

Summary

This position will be responsible primarily for the installation and maintenance of lab cabling and wiring.  He or she will also be required to rack and provision Headend equipment and servers including physical installation, wire various types of network connections, and connect the equipment to power.  He or she will create and maintain detailed wiring diagrams and rack elevations of lab systems.  The employee will be required to work with vendors to ensure the proper configuration of Headend systems and devices.  He or she will be required to build RF distribution systems and IP communication networks.  Each equipment environment consists of different specifications, necessitating the ability to adapt to changing requirements and new technology. 

Responsibilities

         Ability to design detailed, complex diagrams such as rack layouts and elevations and author associated documentation

         Capable of making and dressing coax and Ethernet cables in labs or production environments

         Follow wiring standards in performing physical layer cabling installations

         Ability to read wiring diagrams of varying complexity (cable and connector types:

         RG59, RG6, mini coax and twisted pair cables)

         Installation of cable TV Headend equipment including RF distribution equipment

         Install, configure, and maintain test environment equipment.

         Ability to troubleshoot physical layer issues, identify the root cause and determine ownership of problems.  Ability to analyze and validate issues written by others

         Ability to prioritize multiple tasks for efficient work output

         Ability to participate in defining overall approach and structure of lab designs

         Review and provide input to new technical requirements

         Ability to engage with vendors to resolve equipment issues and identify future needs

         Provide a Bill of Material for equipment required to meet future requirements

         Ensure lab cleanliness and identify any safety concerns

         Provide reports on a weekly basis of all system design and maintenance activity

         Coordinate activities between departments to ensure uninterrupted business operation

         Proactive identification and resolution of complex technical and operational issues

         Perform bug verification, development and testing on reported issues as needed

         Travel between labs may be required. Labs are currently located in PA and NJ.  The employee would be based in Downingtown, PA where 90% of employee's work will take place

Technical Requirements

         Strong working knowledge of Outlook, MS Office programs etc.

         Knowledge of performance monitoring and configuration management tools

         Strong proficiency with MS Visio and other computer design software

         Familiarity with Label Wiring Standards including ANSI/TIA/EIA 606, BS EN ISO 60950, FAA AC 43, 13A, and other codes and standards is preferred

         Understanding of MER, QAM, PSK, and dB and other RF characteristics

         Experience with signal measurement and test tools

         Strong knowledge of IP networks and IP addressing (IPv4/IPv6) is a plus

         Knowledge of packet loss, crosstalk, BER, ISO model

         Understanding of WANs, LANs, VLANs, VPNs and firewalls

         Knowledge of optical equipment and characteristics such as CWDM, DWDM, single mode, multi-mode, SFPs, GBICs etc.

         Working experience with Cable modems, eMTAs, and STBs

         Knowledge of power, UPS, watts, volts, amps, current etc. a plus

         Experience with HVAC or fire suppression systems a plus

         Must be very detailed oriented and have a passion for accuracy and completeness

         Must have good communication skills, working in teams and as an individual contributor

         Ability to clearly and concisely describe problems in both written and oral forms and communicate both orally and in writing in a clear, professional and pleasant manner

         Must be willing to accept additional assignments and take the lead and assist other team members as necessary

         Ability to work autonomously without close supervision or assistance

  • Self-motivated with desire for continuous learning

Education/Experience

         Technical certification in electronics or cabling desired

  • 3+ years of applicable job related experience in the cable (CATV), telecommunications or satellite industry is desired

         5+ years' experience in CO, Headend and /or NOC environments

         Administering IP and/or server networks

         CCNA network certification a plus

         SCTE affiliation and/or certification
