As of Jul 17, 2026, the average hourly pay for full time bus delivery in the United States is $18.45, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.11 and $20.19 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can you become a part-time bus driver?

Full-time bus drivers typically work standard schedules, but some transit agencies offer part-time or flexible positions depending on their staffing needs. Part-time bus driving may require similar licensing and safety certifications as full-time roles and often involves fewer hours per week.

What disqualifies you from being a bus driver?

Full Time Bus Delivery drivers are typically disqualified if they have a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with the appropriate endorsements, a clean driving record, and pass background checks and drug tests. Disqualifications also include certain criminal convictions, medical conditions that impair driving ability, or a history of unsafe driving behaviors. Additionally, good communication skills and the ability to handle schedules are important for the role.

Do bus drivers get paid for the whole day?

Full-time bus drivers typically receive pay for the entire scheduled shift, which includes driving hours, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and any required breaks. Their pay is usually based on hours worked or a fixed salary, regardless of whether they are actively driving at all times during the shift. Overtime pay may apply if they work beyond standard hours.

What is the highest paying bus driver job?

The highest paying bus driver jobs are typically found in specialized sectors such as charter, tour, or corporate transportation, where drivers often earn higher wages due to additional skills, certifications, or longer hours. Long-haul or interstate bus drivers may also earn higher salaries compared to local transit drivers, especially with experience and seniority.
