Nelsons Bus Service is Hiring School Bus Drivers in McFarland, WI!

Full Time

Earn $21 Per Hour

Valid Wisconsin CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements preferred (training provided if other requirements are met)


Position Overview

The Full-Time School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students and authorized passengers while providing excellent customer service and maintaining a safe environment on the bus.

This role requires flexibility in scheduling and assignments to support daily route coverage, trips, summer transportation needs, route testing, driver evaluations, and operational support functions.

Drivers work under the direction of the Director of Transportation and additional supervisors as assigned.


Schedule & Availability
  • Full-time position averaging 35–40 hours per week

  • School year schedule based on district calendar

  • Must remain available during non-school days to maintain weekly hours

  • Flexible scheduling required to support trips and route coverage

  • Additional work assignments available during summer and school breaks


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide student transportation services for AM, Midday, and PM routes during school days

  • Maintain flexibility in daily and weekly assignments to help cover trips and fulfill full-time scheduling expectations

  • During school-year trip sign-up periods, this position will select preferred trips after other eligible drivers

Additional Full-Time Duties
  • Bus cleaning, washing, and fueling

  • Fleet movement between locations or body shops

  • Test driving routes

  • Assisting the driver safety team with:

    • Driver evaluations

    • Driver training

    • Route reviews and route testing

  • Administrative support duties as assigned

Non-School Year Duties

During summer and non-school periods, duties may include:

  • Summer school transportation

  • Trip transportation services

  • Delivery of sold units to customer locations

  • Assisting the driver safety team with evaluations and training

  • Route review and testing

  • Administrative support

  • Additional transportation and operational duties as assigned


School Bus Driver Duties
  • Comply with all local and State traffic regulations and Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License requirements

  • Safely transport students and authorized passengers according to assigned routes, schedules, and bus assignments

  • Pick up and discharge passengers only at authorized stops

  • Follow established routes, schedules, policies, and operating procedures

  • Assist passengers boarding and exiting the bus as needed

  • Safely operate wheelchair ramps and secure wheelchairs or other mobility devices when required

  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate safety procedures to passengers

  • Respond professionally and effectively during emergencies or unexpected situations

  • Address passenger misconduct immediately to maintain a safe environment

  • Report misconduct incidents to the Terminal Manager and complete required reports before the end of the shift

  • Report delays, accidents, and maintenance concerns promptly

  • Remain flexible and professional when handling traffic delays, flat tires, or schedule changes

  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort

  • Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checks of:

    • Gas

    • Oil

    • Tires

    • Water

    • General vehicle condition

  • Complete mileage/fuel reports, maintenance requests, and timecards within required timeframes


Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years old

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with nPassenger endorsement and School Bus endorsement (CDL training may be provided for qualified applicants who meet hiring requirements)

  • Ability to pass:

    • DOT physical examination

    • Drug and alcohol screening

    • Background check

    • Driving record review

  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • Ability to read route maps, safety materials, and company procedures

  • Ability to complete written reports and documentation accurately
