Botanist | Ecological Restoration Specialist

This full-time Botanist role supports a variety of environmental projects through vegetation surveys, habitat assessments, wetland and stream delineations, and ecological data analysis. The position combines fieldwork and office-based reporting, with frequent travel and strong opportunities for long-term professional growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct vegetation surveys, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, and stream assessments, with a strong focus on Great Plains species and grasses.
  • Support vegetation management, habitat planning, and ecological restoration efforts.
  • Review endangered plant and sensitive species records.
  • Collect GPS and other field data to support mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Prepare technical reports, regulatory documents, permit applications, maps, and data tables.
  • Lead or support field teams while ensuring safe, efficient operations.
  • Use GIS tools, including ArcGIS Online, for mapping and project analysis.
  • Assist with work plans, schedules, budgets, and project coordination.
  • Perform environmental field sampling using equipment such as GPS units, tablets, soil augers, and quadrats.
  • Conduct restoration site evaluations, soil surveys, and avian/wildlife surveys as needed.
  • Maintain quality control of project deliverables and communicate progress to project managers.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, environmental science, botany, biology, ecology, wildlife biology, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience with habitat assessments, wetland delineations, restoration site evaluations, soil surveys, vegetation surveys, and wildlife/avian monitoring.
  • Experience with field sampling, environmental data analysis, technical reporting, restoration planning, and permit applications.
  • Strong technical writing skills for reports, plans, and regulatory documentation.
  • Proficiency with ecological data collection and analysis related to vegetation, wetlands, soils, and endangered plants.
  • Familiarity with NEPA-related environmental review documents and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with GIS/ESRI ArcMap and ArcGIS Online.
  • Knowledge of environmental permitting and restoration planning.
  • Strong organizational, scheduling, budgeting, and QA/QC review skills.
Work Environment

This is a full-time role within a stable, safety-focused organization. The position includes a mix of office and field work, with up to 60% travel, including overnight trips. Fieldwork may involve working outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions, while office work includes reporting, data analysis, and use of Microsoft Office, databases, and GIS software.
