Role Description The Boat Yard Foreman is a full-time, on-site role based in Newport Beach, CA, responsible for overseeing daily boat yard operations and maintenance activities. This role coordinates and supervises yard staff, assigns tasks, and ensures safe and efficient use of equipment, tools, and workspaces. Day-to-day responsibilities include scheduling and monitoring maintenance and repair work on boats, docks, and yard facilities; inspecting completed work for quality and safety; and prioritizing tasks based on operational needs. The Boat Yard Foreman also manages inventory of parts and supplies, collaborates with management on work schedules and project timelines, and communicates with internal teams regarding vessel readiness and yard status. This position maintains a strong focus on safety procedures, housekeeping standards, and adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong supervisory skills, including team leadership, task delegation, and performance monitoring in a yard, marine, or maintenance environment.
- Experience operating or coordinating work involving heavy equipment and tools commonly used in marine or yard operations.
- Effective communication skills for providing clear instructions, safety briefings, and updates to team members and management.
- Basic carpentry skills for dock, structural, and minor vessel repairs, with attention to durability and safety.
- Hands-on maintenance skills for boats, facilities, and equipment, including troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices, including OSHA or similar guidelines, and commitment to a safe work environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and adapt to changing operational needs in a fast-paced yard setting.
- Previous experience in a marine, boat yard, marina, or related field is highly preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in marine maintenance or a related trade is a plus.
- Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
